Update: I added a star to my previous review for the customer service from Edward, the manager, afterwards. We gave them a call to bring up the experience that all 3 of our classes had on our respective field trips and we were sent vouchers for a future experience. We were also given directions to contact him directly for our next field trip so we could ensure our students had enough time to complete the course. We appreciated the follow-up gesture and look forward to having positive field trip experiences next time. Thanks, Ed!
If you've got lots of time and are going on your own, this is a great experience. Lots of fun and thrills all around!
However, if you are a teacher considering booking this for a FIELD TRIP, KNOW THESE THINGS FIRST:
We had a small group of 15 people doing the classic course and we were held up due to a miscommunication between the admin desk and the trainers at the course. This led to a few walk-in groups getting in front of us and it was a long wait to get past each activity. Even my eager and capable kids only made it through 1 activity on the second part of the course (of three parts) and has no turn around because we ran out of time.
After talking to management, they were helpful and refunded us for part of the course. Looking back now, we were still charged over 2/3 of the price when we only finished 1/3 of it. I was under a time crunch working with my kids and did not have time to reach a better resolution.
It was an extremely frustrating situation and I would have happily paid full price for a well-organized experience where we got what we paid for. I don't understand why this is a consistent issue with no attempt to prevent overbooking on days where there are large groups (like schools) present. I appreciate management's attempt to help with the situation but would rather see a preventative approach is it is VERY preventable.

Read moreTruly such an incredible outdoor thrilling experience that we 100% recommend if you stop by Nanaimo or you will have just as an amazing time at any of their Wildplay locations.. They have many attractions (all outdoor) from tree top courses in two difficulty levels, ziplines, ax-throwing, and also bridge attractions with bungy jumping and swing for the extreme thrill seekers! We were amazed just how well their facilities are built safely on top of the trees, because we can basically do the entire course on our own pace, clipping our own ziplines, so even kids can challenge themselves easily to clip and climb and zipline. We did the Classic and Extreme course, and we definitely thought that the Extreme course is 10 times more challenge for us, because it requires lots more arm strength, and the tight ropes are all built on a much higher scale.
The bungee jump was sooo amazing, it’s definitely something so unique to save to-do on Vancouver Island along with the beautiful canyon view. But we all found the swing to be more fun because you can do it in pairs and actually see the view when swinging across like the Pirate Ship. The staffs are all very very friendly which made us feel much less scared. Their encouragement and friendliness were also what motivated us to keep going when we struggled a bit on finishing the extreme course too.
The best thing is that WildPlay is open from summer until winter, so you can check out this adventure with your friends or family all the seasons. I would recommend doing the bungee jumping and primal swing attractions in the summer, because the wind was really quite chilly to swing across when we went at the...
Read moreOur family of four visited WildPlay Nainaimo last week and we had a lot of fun. While it was a very valuable and enjoyable experience overall, I think it is also worth noting that visitors should consider a couple of things before making a visit.
We came on a day when there were periodic showers coming down. Due to limitations on our time, we only tried the adventure courses for the children at the park. Some parts of the course did get somewhat slippery due to the rainfall, and there were risks of slipping and falling as a result.
We don't consider ourselves extremely fit physically but we do exercise regularly. My older son (11) had no trouble with the course and had a total blast, but my younger son (7) had quite a lot of trouble with different parts of the course and was stalling at various points, afraid to take on some of the stops. With a lot of encouragement (and some tears), he did come through, but I kind of wish there was a less demanding course for children who are smaller and weaker.
Adults who are physically well would enjoy pushing yourselves through the course. People who have bad backs, shoulders, etc., may find the course (even the kid one) to be too difficult, but there is axe-throwing that I am sure anyone can enjoy.
I like seeing the slogan that states "play more, fear less." At WildPlay Nainaimo, if you are ready to push yourself a little, and stretch your physical limits a tad, you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun. We will probably...
