One of the most beautiful places on the island and probably in the world 🌎🌍
We visited on a beautiful, Sunny Friday Spring day 🌱
• It does get quite windy by the water in spring, bring wind breaker and toque/beanie/hat and layers
• Walk all around and don't miss the Malaspina Galleries in their full form! There's a little path behind a rock that leads here
• The waves were rushing when we went, and the feeling was absolutely miraculous
• Suggestion to wear water proof comfortable hiking shoes
• Definitely bring a camera as every but of this is photography worthy
If you're a yogi or meditator, this would be a great place for both in the summer time or in warmer gear in the Spring 🌼
Parking is SELDOM. There were about 2-4 spots in total, and we got lucky going on a day where there were only two others and our family of four.
If you're travelling from Nanaimo, the ferry travels roughly every half hour to Gabriola, and the 25 minute ferry ride feels a lot faster.
Someone on the ferry said "it almost takes them longer to board and dock than the sailing itself".
There are washrooms on the Ferry and you can take your vehicle. We paid $70 for the four of us (all adults) and a vehicle. This includes roundtrip.
We didn't buy ferry tickets online and showed up 5-10 minutes before the ferry and got on. I don't recommend this if you have anxiety 😂 go a little earlier and ensure your sanity.
As far as I noticed there are vending machines on this ferry, however, there is no restaurant (unlike the larger BC ferries). I could be wrong, as we were there very shortly, however, though I would mention.
There is a supper break for the ferry, so if you're looking to arrive back in Nanaimo at a specific time, please check time schedules.
Suggestion to go to the visitor center for more information ℹ️ once on Gabriola. Please check the visitor centre hours...
Read moreFirst of all, the trail is hard to spot. Look for the tiny blue signpost that leads you to a dirt trail through the trees You will eventually find yourself in a wide, flat area with smooth, bumpy rocks leading down to the water. But where are the galleries? With minimal climbing, you can get down on the left side of the rock (my mother, with her cane was able to do this with some help). There you'll find a narrow ledge leading underneath the most beautiful curved rock formations. You have at last found the Galleries! Take lots of pictures - you earned it!
*Because it requires some climbing and the trail narrows with a steep drop off to the water, I would not reccomend this place for wheelchairs, small children, or anyone who has severe...
Read moreThis place is amazing. How the waves carved these galleries is incredible. A perfect place on the island for a sunset or a day time swimming, or just sitting in the shade and reading your book or surfing the net. There is a diving opportunity as well.
There is a little free parking spot in the end of Malaspina road that you can park your car and walk through a public access walking road and reach to the galleries in a minute. Dogs are allowed and I noticed some people just fishing for fun with their kids.
Lots of space to sit and enjoy the breeze.
No shops or anything around so bring your own water, snacks or whatever you need. Bring your trash out with...
