This review is catered towards dog owners looking to take their pup on a hike to Lindeman lake.

Note that dogs are required to be on leash but you will likely encounter some off leash dogs due to the rule not being enforced.

Difficulty: 3/5 The hike to Lindeman lake is moderately difficult. It is a pretty steep hike for most of the way but the length is relatively short. Depending on your pace, it can take anywhere between 30 mins to 1.5 hours to reach the lake. The trail at beginning of the hike is pretty rough and steep, with lots of large rocks and tree roots. Once you reach a small bridge, the trail becomes less technical flattens out for a bit before becoming steep and winding up the mountain again.

Popularity: 5/5 Lindeman lake has become an increasingly popular hike over the last few years. If you are hiking during the summer months when the weather is nice, the trail will likely be full of other people and some sections may get crowded, especially on weekends.

Activities: 5/5 Lindeman lake is full of activities for you and your pup to do. From hiking, to swimming, to paddle boarding/kayaking and fishing. If you decide to go into the water, be warned that it is freezing cold because the water comes from glaciers in the mountains. Camping is also allowed but requires purchasing a backcountry camping permit.

Views: 5/5 The view at Lindeman lake is truly stunning. There is some seasonal variability to the colour of the lake so that may impact the view and your experience. Weather is also a factor. I find the view to be at its best in late summer on a clear sunny day. The colour of the water is difficult to describe, like a mix of aquamarine and emerald, beautiful and unlike any other lake I’ve seen.

Comfort: 4/5 Although the hike to the lake can be challenging for those who don’t hike regularly, there are plenty of suitable spots by the lake to rest, relax and take in the scenery. There’s also a small dock when you first arrive at the lake but it can get crowded on busy days. You can continue walking along the lake to find a quieter spot for just yourself or your group.

Safety: 4/5 Generally a very safe hike for both you and your dog. The trail is a bit rough in a beginning but there are no scrambles so it should not pose any issues. Dogs are required to be on leash, although you may see other off leash dogs because it’s not really being enforced.

Accessibility: 3/5 In order to reach Lindeman lake, you need to physically be able to hike for an hour on fairly steep terrain. The hike is further east of Chilliwack, near Chilliwack lake, so it is a fairly long drive if you live closer to downtown Vancouver. There is a parking lot by the trailhead but it is often full during summer months so you may need to park further along on the side of the road and walk to the trailhead. Parking is free.

This is one of my favourite hikes in the metro Vancouver area due to the beauty of Lindeman lake and the variety of activities once you get to the lake. If you and your dog are physically able to do the hike, I highly recommend checking this place out...
