My groups experience at Kokanee Creek was extremely disappointing. My group rented the “group camping site” after traveling up from Kelowna after reading the rave reviews on Google. The group site can house 16 individuals, however we only had 8 individuals in our party. As a group we paid $195.00 to rent the site for the evening. At approximately 9:45pm we were approached by the park rangers to lower our volume, to which we immediately did. We respected the request by park ranger, by shutting off our music and speaking at a lower volume. Within the hour we had the park ranger approach us again, threatening to call the police and evict us from the site for speaking too loudly. I reiterate that this site was supposedly for 16 individuals and we were a party of 8 sitting around the camp fire. We also had no music playing and were playing a friendly game around the fire and we’re still harassed by the park rangers.

Note to future camping seekers: this campsite is not hospitable to any group over 4 people (even if you rent the group site) You are unable to have any campfires after 10:00pm and the park rangers are extremely unreasonable and rude. I would not recommend any person come to...

Huge campground broken up into a few smaller ones. Awesome vibe throughout this pretty chill campground. This place has something for everyone and even comes with bears! Yup, they warned me at the gatehouse on arrival today (July 24th, 2023). There's Zipline across the street, apparently, per Google Maps. There's over a km of sandy beaches and 2 dog beaches. A couple of playgrounds for the kiddies. There's 2 separate shower houses, no cost. I paid $32./night for a basic site. There's limited electric sites and cost an extra $7./night. There's no nearby trains. Thank gawd!! 😆 The water is walk-in warm. I explored/drove through the 'Sandpit' camping area, and the sites were remarkably private from each other. There's dense bush and/or forest separating all the sites. And they're a decent size, almost all of them. This is definitely a campground you want to stay at. There are first-come, first-served sites available. All the sites in Sandpit are 100% reservable. I could keep going, but honestly, just come and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed....

Staff are super friendly!

Definitely a family spot for camping. Wear ear plugs to bed or prepare to wake up at 7:30am to a badminton tournament on your street LOL The kids are up early.

We could only rent canoes (June 1st visit) so that sucked. We really wanted to use paddle boards but they weren’t renting them due to water level and temperature.

The firewood they sell is the best price you’ll find anywhere and the city of Nelson is close which was a big help with supplies/food etc.

ALL the trails are walking only, no cycling. They are a pet friendly location but the pet beach is separate and very small.

The nature centre has coffee which is pretty good but the showers are weird. The ones in the campground area are push button and need pushing every 30 seconds. If you go to the beach, those showers are better! They’re a regular shower.

Would go back but...

We had a super fun 4 night stay here. We loved our double site, it was so perfect to share with family. But the mosquitoes were truly terrible! I would estimate my husband had 60+ bites. The nature centre was our favorite part, my kids loved getting ice cream and we loved the coffee. The staff are so friendly and informative. We were able to enroll our kids in the day camp on our last day which made packing up so much easier for the adults! And they had a blast! I’ve never seen day camp offered at a campground, what an incredible amenity! The water level was quite high which really limited the beach areas, but everyone was respectful in sharing the small remaining beach. Nelson is such a lovely city to have nearby. We also enjoyed Ainsworth Hot Springs. This is such a great park, I just wonder if there is a time to visit when the mosquitoes aren’t as hungry!

Very nice park, awesome sandy beach with shallow water for children. Campsites are private. Holding back from 5 stars as there is always room for improvement. The sani dump station is a single stall, creating long line-ups at checkout times and congestion on the street. It would be nice to see some money spent on upgrading to a second lane and sani dump; with the increased popularity of RVs over tents. Especially considering some guests are trying to catch a scheduled ferry. And of course any review of Kokanee Creek Provincial Park must comment on the mosquitoes! I recognize that a broad based mosquitoe control program must be environmentally conscious, however without any control program they are nearly unbearable. This leaves the guests using repellent products that are equally damaging to the environment not to mention the health of the guests.
