This is a little sand and pebble beach between the parking lot and a lovely, glacially scoured outcrop of the local black bedrock. This rock was deep sea floor off the coast of Africa before the ocean predating the Atlantic closed up. You can see lighter layers of rippled silt among the dark layers of mud.
