Overall Great park.
Pros: Beautifully maintained five gravel pathways with on and off leash dog areas. Certain routes are more flat that others offering various levels of difficulty ranging from extra low impact to medium impact. Park has many benches and picnic areas. Park offers a swimming beach for warm weather and poplar dip use. Park has additional beaches typically for dogs. Park offers some public use exercise machines. The park is operated by parks Canada. As such it is affiliated with many great programs offered through Canadian national historic sites. Many of those activities are free and a great way to explore the park, meet friends/socializd (during non-pandemic times) and get active. Park offers summer only services such as ice cream vendors and Shakespeare by the Sea for plays. If you are looking for a great place to take your small children then this park is great, for little ones under 5 I recommend area that are on leash in case of a runaway dog, new puppy or poorly trained dog/puppy/owner. The park offers free bags to pick up poop that can be found at various locations throughout the major trails in the park. Park has lots of historical buildings great for photographs and exploring. If you wish to feed the animals all year round you can enjoy many small creatures but especially chickadees, blue jays, crows, squirrels and chipmunks. Extremely well maintained. Offers 2 parking lots, one facing the containers and shippingyard and the other at the end of tower rd.
Cons:
Since Hurrican Juan (2003) some areas of the park are sparse of trees, so the wind from the harbour and the arm can be quite chilly (bring a wind jacket or a sweater if you chill). Outhouses are not maintenanced often and out of toilet paper on a more than regular basis. But the park itself is the reason to go visit. If you visit the park and have any incontinence issues, I recommend bringing a packet of to go wipes (toss the used in the bin) or a handy pocket sized packet of facial tissues and...
Read moreAwesome place for strolls after work on weekdays. Beautiful landscapes with tall old trees and nice trails which ends to the ocean ! Spring is ideal time for bird watchers and photographers!! When trees don’t have leaves, wildlife gets closer and visible.
Great place for dogs. The park has areas where you can leave your dogs without leash.
Birds, deers and squirrels here are fearless. They are used to humans. Try not feeding them. You might mess up with their diet. They get pretty close.
There are plenty of benches, all across the park. Many picnic tables. You can find your favorite view and a bench. One or two biking trails.
Great view of Atlantic Ocean. Some old bunkers which are now closed. One area gets converted to outdoor theatre during warm days. If you are new, don’t go there alone without charged phone, you might get lost. There are multiple entry points and parking spot. Lost and found at the main entrance.
If you find lost dogs or cats, try to be helpful and call animal services. Most pets are micro chipped and easily get reunited. There is also facebook page, join the page if you wanna find community. Most people who come here are friendly and respectful. You might see a few faces on regular bases including mine ! Feel free to wave or say hi.
And keep the place clean while...
