Went there Oct. 17th morning to meet with friends and family of the late Marjorie Harris, to commemorate her decades of selfless efforts to promote and mentor youth hostels across Canada and especially outdoor activities in Ottawa. Marjorie founded the hostel in the former gaol at 75 Nicholas St. In Ottawa and promoted outdoor activities - xc-skiing, canoeing, hiking, cycling and camping - from that hub. Many who participated and still participate in such activities got together with some of Marjorie's sons and their children to commemorate a plaque placed on a quaint wooden bridge over a burbling brook at Wakefield's sylvan Kendrick Park. Marjorie would have beamed at the location and those who gathered. It was an honor...

Parking is only available on east side of river, off of chemin Wakefield Heights, near Fairbairn House, which is a nice heritage site with local history and with paths, so you’ll want to go to that side of the river anyway to see everything. Nice gardens there as well. If you visit Fairbairn House, they’ve got parking there as well (it’s free). Or, you park in village and walk to it. There’s no more swimming permitted at the bridge (swimming in village at docks near kayak and canoe rental spot is permitted). In summer, Fairbairn House has concerts and exhibits. This is a peaceful spot to...

Beautiful, solid wood bridge. Lots of local information, nice hiking in area. Accessible for strollers and wheelchair yet slightly steep. Lots of bicycles went through. Portable toilets are nearby at the Fairbairn House Heritage Center. Great place for kids to run since pedestrians are well protected by walls. They may want to climb though since the same walls are pretty high. There is a geocache on the bridge but I didn't find it. The flora diversity is great from cultivated to wild. You can access the water by stairs but make sure to wear sturdy shoes as it's slippery in the clay.

We decided to drive here and park in the nearby parking lot to walk to the covered bridge. We walked there first I noticed the big flower gardens in front of the bridge with the history of the volunteers. While walking I peeked on one side to take photos and the on the other side with a different view. Plus there was history along the bridge while walking to the other side. I’ve never been here before and it was nice to visit for the day. I would definitely go back again.

I go to Wakefield once in a while. It’s a quick pleasant drive from Aylmer and once you’re there it’s very relaxing. The scenery is fantastic and there’s lots to do in terms of eating and shopping. I only discovered the Wakefield bridge after a few visits because I didn’t know about it. I finally visited it and what a nice site. Very scenic and historical. I couldn’t take enough photos lol. Visit on a nice sunny day and you will enjoy it! 👍☺️
