I hate bread.
But this place... It's like Jesus himself makes bread here and feeds my poor soul, reinvigorating me with joie de vivre.
This place is a regular highlight in my visits to Wakefield.
When I came back from Paris and sought baked goods here that would compare to the bakeries there, I began to despair after trying 5-6 different places in Ottawa. Nothing came close, however this bakery surpassed many of the places I tried in Paris.
Most recently I had the chocolate croissant, the sausage roll, a brisket sandwich, a croissant BLT, and a double espresso. They were all incredible. The soft flakeyness of their croissants are unbeatable! I still have some other goodies to try so maybe I'll add more photos and words later.
One thing that saddens me a little is that I wasn't able to try their butter tarts again as I was informed they are short on staff. Those butter tarts are the best I've ever had, with a crust so deliciously flakey you might think it was a croissant. Hopefully I can have one on my next visit.
Thank you...

Look before i realized my personal health struggles with severe food allergies .. i use to absolutely truly awesomely fully enjoy this place on a regular repeat basis .. not just for its rustic charm, awesome building , awesome friendly service but for .. absolutely fantastic foods that they made.. been more than a decade that i haven't been able to enjoy their foods .. i use to buy many massive Italian breads, cheese breads, raisin breads and raising buns, pastries, cookies, stuffed sausages rolls, etc etc .. I've got absolutely no clue what they've been offering since my last visits there but they were my most favorite of places to stop in from the early 1970's right up to the early 2000's.. and this type of wholesome onsite bakery in such heritage building long-standing businesses like these only get better with age .. oh how i miss their awesome foods .. darn my...
Read moreA few weeks ago we paid a visit to Wakefield to see the covered bridge and enjoy a swim in the river. I had the kids with me and we wanted to have something to eat afterwards. We stopped at this place to hopefully buy some pastry. I have a heart condition and cannot wear a mask. Informed by the staff, the owner (baker?) came to the front from the kitchen and literally threw me out. "You don't have a mask, you cannot shop here." I said: "you could honour mask exemptions if you want want make a sale." "I want to make a sale, he said, but you must wear a mask." So if the law says mask exemptions are allowed, I guess he doesn't want to respect the law in all its entirety. Never mind he was rude. I won't be shopping there again, and I'll be telling all my friends to...
