Wow this place is huge! We recently camped here for the first time after having heard about The Pinery for years. It doesn’t disappoint. There are three distinctly different campgrounds with over 1,000 sites available. We were in the Riverside area campground. (There is also Burley and Dunes campgrounds) All the sites are a generous size with level ground and a fair amount of tree cover to separate you from your neighbours. We had an electric site though there was no water hook up. Had to use water stations located throughout the campground to get water. Overall the area was beautiful. Lots of marked, well laid out, awe inspiring hiking trails. Bathrooms were clean and abundant. Good showers. Warm and lots of pressure. Our area was “dog friendly”. There are even two dog friendly beaches though we didn’t make it down that far. They are located at the other end of the park near the day use areas. Lots to see and do here. Big park store. Canoe and paddle board rentals. Amazing beach areas that extend as far as you can see. Ice cream and snacks. Very easy to stay entertained. Nights were beautiful. Clear skies. No bugs. Nice campfire pits and picnic tables in each site. The park is a short hop to downtown Grand Bend which offers another level of entertainment all together along with shopping for anything you may have forgot to pack. Altogether a beautiful place to escape to and unwind.

We had a terrible experience at site 1186. There is nothing separating it from the site next it (1183). Unfortunately the people who moved into 1183 were so disgustingly inconsiderate of everyone else around them. They parked their vehicle almost touching our picnic table. They put up their tent 2 feet from ours even though there was so much space on the other side of their site. They left for the evening and returned after midnight when the entire campsite was asleep and quiet. They chose that time to start unloading their stuff. Constantly pressing the fob so the car kept beebing and flashing the lights right beside our tent. Opening and closing the car doors over and over again. Blowing up air mattresses with a really loud air pump, and talking at a loud volume. Finally that stopped. Then 2am they strike up another long conversation at full volume. We finally told them to be quiet. Then a little while later an alarm goes off and keeps going and going until we yell to turn it off. A little while later it goes off again. I got up this time to be sure where this alarm was coming from. Sure enough it was the tent right beside us. I told them to turn off the alarm and that this is incredibly rude. Guess what!!! Another alarm went off after that! In between all those alarms we got to listen to someone snoring so loud and farting. Because that's how close they were. It was disgusting! When we made a noise complaint and explained everything that happened. The park warden went to talk to them and came back with the response that "they had the right to pray." There was no praying going on in that tent. There was a lot of snoring, grunting and farting. That's it! Claiming a right to pray shouldn't be an excuse to make excessive noise and keep other campers awake all night. The next day they were taking wood from the campground and cutting it up for fire wood. Another park violation that the wardens came to investigate. There was a pile of freshly sawed branches that we witnessed them cutting. I'm pretty sure no ticket was written. Maybe they had some religious...

This place makes close to $10 million a year in revenue just on sites! Sad to see where it goes ... Pull in - 1st kiosk the first lady gives me a map tells me to to drive to the one if three parks in the park - Confusion, terrible layout. Dead ends all over. Young humans who hate there job working at kiosks that don't help at all. I get lost at the restaurant/store to have them tell me it's not where I check in (not friendly at all long hair young man ) I go to my park finally . The young man checked us in and told us to turn around and backtrack again to get the firewood . I turn around once again . I find the firewood kiosk to meet two young" hockey guys" that absolutely could care less . "There's no ice we didn't restock it. You gotta go back track to the restaurant/store .... wow, I'm back at the store

Nice beach after you drive 20 mins to find it. .. I don't think I'll ever visit again .

You can rent a canoe and paddle the dead-end channel !

Nice hiking trails . With people jogging on the main road with a toronto NOTL attitude. Very dangerous. Bathrooms were actually clean. The outhouse style one beside our site smelled so bad that the one boy we were with wouldn't go to the bathroom until I told him there's a big one that I had to take him to .

Calculate how many sitespinery has 1000 sites

1000 sites x $55 avg =$55,000 a day income

55k a day!

Multiply that day of fully booked sales

(most of which we all know are no show)

Avg 6 months open 30×6=180 days open

180 days x55k = $9 990 000

$ 9 million a year revenue ?!?!?

You can go a lot better than this Provivncial Parks! Where does all this money go ????!!! To your burnt $7 frys? Your firewood that doesn't burn? All 6 pcs for $12?!?!? $40 a day bikes that break bc they aren't ...

Have been a regular camper at the Pinery for over 40 years, so this is a bit of a state of current affairs. This past rip we have a great spot (285 in Dunes). When we arrived about 3:30pm there was still a fire going (fire alert sign said park was in extreme zone), beer caps on ground, and the big one, food had clearly been dumped in bush at edge of campground. Over the years we have encountered raccoons on several occasions. They normally come out at dusk, sniff around a bit, and leave. The two at our site clearly had been habituated. So they were around during the day and evening, and as bold as can be. I was unloading my vehicle and one climbed in while I had my back turned for a brief minute. Simply, they knew no fear. Most of the first day and evening they picked away at the food dumped in the bush, so by the second day we saw a bit less of them The issue is if we had young children, they would think nothing of approaching them looking for a handout. Not sure if you have ever seen the angry side of a raccoon, but they can be nasty. So no telling what would happen. The 2 campers next to us had the same problem. They decided to pack up their tent and sleep in their vehicle. In know there not bears, bu they can be a problem when they have been habituated by humans. |So if you plan a trip to the pinery, and the Dunes area around 285, watch out. Someone's careless behaviour is going to result in injury.|Another point, over the years its easy to see the effects of staff reductions. Signage on trails is absent for the most part, no more trail guides, visitor center has restricted hours, and so on. It's regretful to see our parks gradually seeing...
