Up for the challenge & folklore re/19th Century Quarry Pioneers and “the Witch of Cave Springs”aka Margaret Reed side trail? Incredibly scenic with challenging & rocky terrain, narrow footpaths via the escarpment and a steep climb upward. Plenty of side trails to add to the 7km Witch of the Cave springs or choose to meander through the property with historical sites & buildings. Try to locate the “German look-out” or pass through rock entrance known as the birth canal! Dress for warmth, have appropriate footwear/icers and poles recommended. Limited but free parking at the Quarry Road parking lot in Beamsville within a short walk to the Bruce trail. Not suitable for young children, walkers or mobility aids and bring refreshments & snacks or opt to go into town afterwards....
Read moreThis place is beautiful....but is not properly marked. It links into the Bruce trail. If you came for the caves, follow GPS direction to the dead end road and park right there on the road in front of the house.... you go through that little gate and go BEHIND the red barn type building to the very very right. It's just beautiful....
We went the wrong way at first and went up and took us a good long forest walk to another dead end street. This reaches near where the "camp" parking is. Once you get to the top you have a beautiful view of the vineyards and lakes and skylines of toronto area in the distance.

Read moreWhat a terrific little gem. Tricky to find the trail going up the escarpment, but after a little trial and error we figured it out.
The climb is relatively straight forward. When you get to the top you intersect with the mighty Bruce Trail.
If you turn left when you climb to the top and walk about 1200m you will come to the spot where the first trail blaze for what would later become the Bruce Trail is remembered. Cool!
Have fun! If you're there in the fall they will be firing all day. It's hard to miss, and doesn't fade into...
