I visited Hilton Falls Conservation Park on a Saturday afternoon and had a fantastic experience exploring its scenic trails. The park offers a great mix of hiking and biking routes, catering to different fitness levels while keeping nature at the forefront.
Hiking Trails & Difficulty: The park features three main hiking trails: Hilton Falls Trail (3 km, moderate) – A wide, well-maintained path leading to the falls, surrounded by towering trees that provide shade and a peaceful atmosphere. Red Oak Trail (5 km, moderate) – A slightly longer loop with varied terrain, great for those wanting a bit more of a challenge. Beaver Dam Trail (7 km, strenuous) – The most demanding of the three, offering a rewarding workout with some rugged sections.
The hike to Hilton Falls was particularly enjoyable—the wide path made for easy walking, and the final descent to the falls via a set of stairs provided the perfect photo opportunity at the base of the cascading water.
Bike Trails: In addition to hiking, there are three bike trails, making this park a great destination for cyclists looking to enjoy some off-road riding.
Crowd Levels: When I arrived in the early afternoon, the trails were pleasantly quiet, but by the time I was heading back, the main paths had gotten a bit busier (likely due to the falls being a popular spot). Still, it never felt overcrowded.
Overall Impression: Hilton Falls is a beautiful and well-maintained park with trails suitable for casual walkers and more adventurous hikers alike. The waterfall is the highlight, but the surrounding forest and additional trails make it worth multiple visits. If you’re looking for a peaceful nature escape with options for both hiking and biking, this is a great choice!
A must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts—scenic, well-marked, and just the right level...
Read moreWe went on a Sunday and were charged $27 dollars at the gate for 2 people. In short, the experience was not worth the cost, nor the 35 min drive from Mississauga. We walked around 6kms in total on the yellow trail, and part of the purple and the red trails.
The name Hilton Falls makes one think there are multiple waterfalls but there's just one (it does say this on their site). It was small but nice I guess though it was full of people walking in and around it. A group of people were drinking what seemed like alcohol down there as well.
There's not much more to the trails in my opinion. It's just trees on either side for the rest of the way until you get to the reservoir on the red trail. Also, we were asked 3 times for directions to the falls. I had no problem following the directional arrows but they were very small and easy to miss if you're not paying attention.
I love walking these kinds of trails because of the silence and the fresh air and the feeling of being far from the city, but this is something you can get in other parks (Erindale Park in Mississauga) completely for free. I couldn't find any reason to justify charging so much. I wish they would explicitly say what they use all that money for on their site, other than just "conservation". Only thing I could find was that the government doesn't give them enough to maintain the place so they depend a lot on visitors but this was from 2014, and even back then they admitted the visitor amount was increasing every year meaning they're probably making a lot more now than they were at the time.
Overall, price at the gate is too high for what you're getting. I think it would only be worth it if you used the biking trails (which I would love to try) because there's a few of them and they're all a good length. Not sure if I'll be walking these trails...
Read moreDespite the challenges that we currently face, our circumstances are pushing more of us to explore the outdoors and appreciate all the natural beauty that exists right in our own "backyard". I recently had the pleasure of visiting Hilton Falls and it was a phenomenal experience. The pathways are spacious giving ample room for families to safely socially distance while hiking/walking. There is excellent coverage from direct sunlight along the pathways. However, the views of the beautiful blue sky will surely breathe life into your spirit. You can allow yourself to feel free, relaxed, and at peace. You may want to also feel a bit adventurous and walk across the rocks at the falls and capture amazing memories with loved ones both adults and older kids. The young ladies working there all were friendly and professional. I recommend that you download or save an electronic copy of map of area and pay close attention not only to colors for specific pathways, but the numbered marked points. NOTE: that you are only able to enter the area about 20 minutes prior to your booked time. However, if you arrive early be sure to head into the cutest market area located through Crawford Crescent in Campbellville. You would absolutely feel as if you were in a scene of a Hallmark movie purchasing some famous cookies from their local eatery. The entire experience...
