My wife and I went here for a hike and I can't recommend it enough! The property itself (with the museum house) is situated back from the main road and you take a cool tree-lined dirt road to get to it. The parking lot is large and the main property is truly beautiful (situated on a lake front). We didn't go in the museum this time but fully intend to return! We set off on our hike after grabbing a trail map and were impressed from the get-go due to an old moss-covered stone wall (rather, the remnants of it) that ran parallel to the trail for the first little bit. Very cool!
There are multiple named trails through this park and some are more rugged than others (further along) but all were kept well cleared and signed. Our hike took us on the old road that used to run from Halifax to Windsor (at least a small section of it) and I could just imagine horse buggies travelling on it back in the day - you can still clearly see the wheel ruts in the road. If you take the whole loop (which took us about 2hrs 45 mins with some breaks) you pass by two serene lakes. The trail goes through many different areas and as a hiker, I love variety in terrain so that was great! There were never any steep climbs either - just some hilly terrain at times.
A hugely worthwhile adventure to undertake for walkers/hikers/nature lovers - not far outside the city either! You will not...
Read moreWe had a wonderful visit to the Uniacke Estate Museum. The grounds are beautiful for a walk, and the historic home is stunningly preserved. What truly made the experience special was the guide, their storytelling was engaging and accessible, even for our toddler. My little one was captivated by the guide’s explanations and asked lots of questions (which were all answered so patiently). It’s rare to find a museum where history feels alive and welcoming for all ages. Highly recommend for a family outing, especially if you’re looking to mix nature, history, and some very...
Read moreMy wife and I were traveling in the area and decided to check this site out. We enjoyed touring the house, entrance fee of $4 per adult. The house was the summer home of Richard John Uniacke and holds the artifacts of a wealthy aristocrat of the early to mid 1800s. There were knowledgeable curators on site to help bring perspective to the history, family, rooms and artifacts. It was a quick and interesting tour in my perspective. The grounds, trails and lake are naturally beautiful and open to the public so stop by to check that out even if the house tour is not to...
