Maligne Canyon in Jasper National Park is an absolute marvel, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share my exceptional experience there. This place is a hidden gem in the heart of the Rockies, and it left an indelible mark on my heart. Without a doubt, Maligne Canyon is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

What immediately struck me about Maligne Canyon was its breathtaking scale. The canyon, carved over millennia by the relentless flow of the Maligne River, plunges to depths that seem almost otherworldly. As I walked along the well-maintained trails, I couldn't help but feel humbled by the grandeur of this natural wonder.

One of the highlights of my visit was the incredible display of waterfalls. The cascading water, framed by the sheer limestone walls of the canyon, creates a symphony of sights and sounds that is both soothing and exhilarating. Standing at the foot of the falls, I was in awe of the forces of nature that shaped this stunning landscape.

The hiking trails at Maligne Canyon offer a variety of options, from easy strolls to more challenging treks. Regardless of your fitness level, you'll find a trail that suits your preferences. Exploring the canyon's twists and turns, I was treated to panoramic vistas at every turn, each one more breathtaking than the last.

The interpretive signs along the trails provide valuable insights into the geological history and ecological significance of Maligne Canyon. It's not just a place of natural beauty; it's also an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the natural world.

Maligne Canyon is also home to an array of wildlife. During my visit, I was fortunate to spot some local residents, including playful marmots and vibrant birdlife. It's a testament to the pristine wilderness of the area and a reminder of the importance of conservation.

In conclusion, Maligne Canyon is a true masterpiece of nature. It offers a harmonious blend of tranquility and adventure, making it suitable for all types of visitors. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a photographer, or simply seeking a serene escape, Maligne Canyon has something to offer. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this remarkable destination in Jasper National Park. It's a place where the beauty of the natural world takes center stage, and it's an experience that will stay with you long after...

This is a trail where you start at the top and go down. In this case what goes down must come back up. The trail is marked in sections by the bridges you cross. The main parking and visitor centre is at the top and the trail is paved with fences and stairs. The path as far as the fourth bridge is steep but wide and paved with a lot of stairs.

My wife and I started on this path together. Both of us being in our 70s, I made the chivalrous gesture of climbing the stairs to get the car. I instructed my wife to continue down the trail to the fifth bridge while I climbed the stairs and there is a parking area at the fifth bridge where I would meet her. I told her to take lots of pictures because I wanted to be able to see what I missed. It had been drizzling all day but as I said the trail was very good and neither of us anticipated any problems. I turned back at the third bridge to get the car. It was only a short distance to the fourth bridge and then over a kilometre to the fifth bridge. After climbing the many stairs to reach the top I drove around to the fifth bridge and she was not there yet. I waited half an hour and finally heard from her. She had had a very bad experience as the trail beyond the fourth bridge had turned into a narrow muddy footpath. They really should have had warning signs particularly in the wet conditions. My wife had a terrifying experience from the fourth bridge on. When I finally saw her coming she was about to break down in tears. However she looked so pitiful covered in mud that I started laughing and that turned her tears into...

There are 6 bridges.

Bridges 1 to 2 are the easiest with little elevation differences.

Starting from bridge 2 and onward, it is a steep decline or incline depending on which entrance one begins but eventually one has to loop back to their car if they drove.

We never made it past bridge 3 as the hike from bridge 2 to 3 was already very taxing on our bodies. Mind you, this is for those who are of average fitness. Expect tons of steep inclines, steps, loose gravel etc.

Being 350 LB, 6'2 and not in the best of shape - this hike was hard on my heart and knees. Bring plenty of water as you will be sweating tons especially on hot days during the summer. One would be climbing the average of 15 floors between bridge 1-3 and the drop / climb is very intense after bridge 2 - not over long distances but short distances so almost felt like climbing a steep wall (But on steps) in some places. The trails have rails here and there, use them. Bring hiking sticks if you can and shoes with good traction. Again, bring plenty of water and try to hike this on an empty stomach because eating right before this hike will be very uncomfortable!

Take your time, do not rush - as the elevation differences will be hard on the knees and one's heart. Warm up a bit beforehand.

This place is not recommended for people with poor knees, hip, spinal or heart issues.

So...other than what was mentioned, you absolutely have to visit this canyon - it is...
