The extension from Cable Bay trail. A sometimes narrow, single track, along the edge of the shore, some steep drops, cliffs, roots, and rocks but the wildlife viewing is seldom disappointing with otters, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, herons, kingfishers...and occasionally (but very rare) orca. The tidal surge through the narrows is always entertaining to watch boats come through. Trail head parking can be crowded during the summer, especially on sunny weekends.

The park at the end of a park (cable bay trail) am off leash dog park park where (most) owners keep good tabs on their dogs. (Although one inconsiderate person let their unruly dog run ahead running up behind me and gave me a scare!) Beautiful view and a nice walk. Keep your dogs close and under control and everyone has a wonderful time at this park.

Across from the end of cable bay trail walk about 1 km or so along a narrow rock path, a bit of overgrown bushes in the way, but you reached the end when you see a mini light house with a solar panel on it, a island across the way with fast moving aka dodge narrows and cables hanging above.

This was a good hike. Close to Cedar/ Nanaimo. Not very difficult. GREAT FOR A SUMMERS DAY PICNIC.you can wander down to the beach it can get slippery. The trails are pretty standard vancouver island/west cost. I just did a loop, it was 6k. There was probly 4 forks in the trail, all of Witch I stayed right at. The trail here takes you by Dods Narrows Witch is a notorious for having strong tides that people battle with there boats.

You can get access to this park via the cable Bay trail, by either going to the cable Bay trail head then turning right at your first set of power lines. The way I'd recommend going is down to the end of cable Bay trail then following the trail along the water. It'll be easiest and you stay on what I believe is all park property. Cheers

Don't forget to keep the trails Clean

The park is off the main path from the Cable Bay parking lot. There are some signs. The path is mostly flat through some dense scotch broom. The path is narrow and made of jagged rock gravel and can get muddy when it rains. There's a steepish slope down from the trees to the water viewpoint, where you can see the aquamarine water and the rushing rapids between Vancouver Island and...
