Neck Point Park is one of the most impressive natural spots I’ve visited in Nanaimo. I’ve been here multiple times, and every single visit feels like a reset for the mind and soul. The park sits right along the coastline, offering a peaceful and untouched atmosphere—perfect for anyone looking to step away from the busyness of daily life and reconnect with nature.
What stands out the most about Neck Point is its long, beautiful shoreline that features a mix of rocky outcrops and soft sandy beaches. There are plenty of scenic spots to sit and enjoy the sound of the waves, breathe in the fresh ocean air, and just take it all in. If you follow the walking trails throughout the park, you’ll encounter a wide variety of natural landscapes—from shaded forest paths and open grassy areas to dramatic cliffside viewpoints. Each season brings its own kind of beauty.
The park is also very pet-friendly. There are designated trails and open spaces where dogs are welcome, and you’ll often see local dog owners walking their pups along the paths. It creates a warm and welcoming vibe throughout the park.
If you enjoy outdoor activities, Neck Point has plenty to offer. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, or having a peaceful picnic, the space is well-suited for it all. There are picnic tables near the beach where you can relax, eat, and enjoy the view. On sunny days, the atmosphere is especially refreshing and invigorating.
As for amenities, they’re quite good. There are clean washrooms, outdoor showers for rinsing off after a swim, drinking water stations, and free parking. The only minor downside is that the Wi-Fi signal is a bit weak—it’s not reliable everywhere—but you can still check your map or send a quick message if needed. In a way, being a little “offline” here is actually a bonus; it helps you fully immerse in the natural surroundings.
Overall, Neck Point Park is absolutely worth visiting whether you’re living in Nanaimo or just passing through Vancouver Island. Whether you’re into walking, swimming, relaxing by the water, or simply escaping for a peaceful moment, this place has it all. I’ll definitely be coming back...

Read moreThis our family’s second time at the park, a year apart. Both times we visited fairly late as we were making time waiting for ferries to take us back to the mainland
Each time, this park offered the same views, same trails, same, sunsets, but somehow felt different, magical.
The first time we got there a bit earlier which allowed us time to walk around the entire park.
Slowly, deliberately, meandering on trails alongside rocky and sandy beaches, trails surrounded by trees and sparse woods, quiet little hilly areas in which we say deer, timidly yet gracefully walking and feeding beside us as we made our way back to the parking area…magical.
Our second visit was a bit more hurried, it was darker, with a summer storm looming nearby. The feeling, positively electric yet tranquil. All one had to do was look to the north-west and admire the sunset’s colours to feel positively in awe. Walking back to the car in near darkness…was tricky, yet made us feel like kids again.
The park is well maintained, with plenty of parking (each visit , it was full) with a small beach at the entrance from which folks can launch their canoes, kayaks or inflatables, and kids can frolic in the sand and shallow water. Picnic areas are plentiful throughout the park; some with tables, some without.
Dogs are welcome, however it is required they stay on leash. The trails are hard-packed and some are ok for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Some are not as they have stairs.
I recommend this park. My wife and kids...
