Came here for my friend’s 27th birthday, we have all been extremely excited to try the pub since the reopening. I will start by saying they did get us in and to table in about half an hour, for a Saturday night we were all happy as we didn’t have a reservation. From this moment on it was extreme disappointment and horrible food quality and service, the main menu stated right on it, happy hour after 8PM, we all wanted to wait an extra 10 minutes to get some cheaper appetizers and then order our main courses. We informed our waitress of this decision and she told us that the menu is actually incorrect and happy hour starts at 8:30pm and the happy hour is a separate menu now. She left us the main menus and the new happy hour menus knowing that we planned to all order lots of food off both menus. 8:30pm finally comes around and we go to place our orders only at this point to be told that the main menu is no longer available so we are now forced to order a bunch of happy hour items for full meals which was a terrible choice, this restaurant gives half portions on the happy hour menu for only a handful of dollars cheaper then the full meal item off the main menu so they are ripping off customers by using this menu after 8:30 and making way more money. We informed the shift manager that we were not relayed any of this information and how disappointed we all were, instead of trying to help resolve the issue the manager just agreed how terrible of a situation it was and then just walked away avoiding our table the rest of the evening. Now for the most disappointing part of it all, we ordered about $110 worth of items, the calamari was dripping wet in grease and you could tell the fryer oil hadn’t been changed in a long time because the breading on it was dark brown and had a gross fish taste that I have never experienced before, the half order of KFC was dry and extremely fatty(I didn’t even eat it I left it on the table for them to throw away), the 7 dollar veggie spring rolls are cheap frozen ones from the store and are worth about $2 for the size and quality they were, the entire experience was a huge let down. As we were leaving we over heard another table saying “this is ridiculous we should have just gone to Original Joes”. Seriously, anyone reading this, save your time and money and go somewhere else, this pub is not what it used to be and they are here to rip you off and not do a single thing about it.
As someone who works in the customer service world and for a larger company, we will always refer customers to places for lunch while we are helping them, Pipers will never be recommended again based off this experience. Huge waste of $110, I wouldn’t even want a gift certificate at this point just a refund as we didn’t even eat the food that was ordered because it was so gross and...

My family and I decided to try out Piper’s Restaurant on Friday night. Unfortunately we had an experience much like Doon Law had reported but much worse.
We had a reservation but it took the server quite a while to figure out where to place us in a half empty restaurant. We placed our food orders immediately since we were very tired and hungry after a long travel day .
We ordered one order of vegetables dumplings, one mango shaved ice, a burger and one sushi roll.
We waited over a hour for the first dish to come out . By the time we all got our food the dumplings were cold , the dessert was melted and the burger was very dry and I had to ask for a side of burger sauce to make it easier to swallow. All the food came out one at a time with 10-15 minutes between each dish . I told my nephew to start eating without us cause this was going to take a long time, and it did . The sushi roll was good according to my niece, but it came out last and there was no cooking involved in making one sushi roll?
I repeatedly asked three differently servers to check on our food , but was told multiple times it’s going to be ten more minutes. We were given no reason why our food was taking so long .
I have worked in the restaurant industry for 23 years in front of house and back . A cheese burger should take between 8-12 minutes tops, not one hour to cook. A sushi roll should take no longer than 5 minutes to make.
We were offered no explanation and no manager came to help resolve the problem. As of result of the poor service and staff , we missed our relatives ferry and they were forced to spend another night on the island .
We were given two day old muffins and a dried out waffle with soggy mangoes on it , and by the way the mangoes were garnished with cilantro. What the heck is cilantro doing on a sweet dessert waffle ? This is all we received as compensation for our troubles. Those of which were probably going to be thrown out at the end of the shift anyways.
I want to know why the manager was not informed of the situation in the dining room. The restaurant was not even that busy. My wife tipped the staff generously even though it was not deserved in the slightest.
Avoid this restaurant for a good while till the management and staff can clean up their act . This was truly embarrassing for the Nanaimo restaurant scene.
Will not be returning...
Read moreWe went to Pipers because a friend advised us that it had just reopened under new management. Unfortunately it was the worst of experiences. It was decently busy for a Thursday night. We had our drinks which were fine no issues. Food wise though somehow my order was completely wrong and mind you I had talked to the waitress about the different foods and what she recommended. I ordered their 5 cheese skillet. Then things go wrong. After our food arrives I realize the order doesn't make sense as the menu completely states something different. Should be a simple change up. Unfortunately our waitress didn't return for a lengthy bit but when she did she advised that the untouched food was ceviche. At no point in our discussion of recommendations did either of us mention ceviche or even discuss it. So she took the order back. When she returned she advised the "meal" would be removed from the order and they were firing up my correct order. I advised her as our table was already finished eating that she can just cancel it. She insisted to me that they can pack up my ordered food as a TOGO, which i said was fine. Of course my surprise and embarrassment when she brings my Togo and a receipt to pay for food that wasn't even brought out right the first time but even more when I asked what this receipt was for she states the skillet. So I paid for a skillet that was meant to arrive 45 mins before with my friends meals and instead I paid $25 for Togo food that when I took out of the box at home was a further disappointment as it literally had the garlic toast in the poke bowl box. What skillet what 5 cheese? **The pics are of what they sent home with me that hasn't been touched and the original wrong order Just a absolutely...
