I have been looking forward to touring the Barbour site as this is my third time visiting newtown but the first time it’s been open. There’s a lot of potential here but I left the tour feeling disappointed. My eyes are still watering from the mold in the white house. Wouldn’t it be incredible if the Barbour site incorporated more of this special town into its facilities. Why not put a general store in with items that people that live here need as well as gift shop selling merchandise made by new Wes valley locals! My third year here and there’s never been a show or event in these buildings that I’ve been able to attend. I could see live music, touring plays, traditional east coast dances or meals and karaoke nights taking off in that great hall. It would also be lovely to make at least one of those out buildings into a place where locals can come to make their art (quilts and other fabric art) or work on and/or teach traditional crafts / hobbies. Tourists need a reason to make the trip worth it, I’m not sure it’s quite worth the drive in the current state.

The Barbour site should be a community hub not slowly rotting away until it’s swallowed up by the Atlantic. It’s a bit of a sad state...

We enjoyed every aspect of our visit to the Barbour House. Our tour was excellent (the tour guides - teenagers - coped quite well with the fact that we had seven young children with us!) and informative. It was so nice to see teenagers and young adults actively involved and informed about their history.

Our meal at the restaurant after was delicious, and the staff accommodated our large group with ease and kindness. One of our servers even took my five month old for a few minutes so I could eat my lunch without a baby in my lap!

New-Wes-Valley is a beautiful spot, and the people of Newtown are no exception. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, and would recommend it to anyone...

I ate at the restaurant and was disgusted with the service or lack of training provided to staff members. They lacked basic etiquette. On my arrival I observed no less than four employees at the front desk. After standing there for approximately two or three minutes, one of them advised me to sit wherever I would like. My food was served without cutlery or napkin, I had to request both items. Considering the fact that tourists is a major part of your business, you should consider investing in the basics of...

Wonderful tour of this heritage site that shows how life in an outport was for rich merchants in the old days. A must see. Better than the heritage site in Bonavista. Restaurant on site and a gift shop with local crafts and home made bread and cookies! Highly recommend.

Wow wow wow! This place is amazing. A hidden gem. A bit off the beaten path but well worth the trek! Visited for the first time this summer. Will be recommending to family and friends. Guided tours on site of the village. Like stepping back in time.

We had an enjoyable tour today of the heritage village. The young tour guides did a very professional job explaining the story behind the families of the community. This is a must visit to learn the family heritage & how they lived.
