I was totally impressed. We've been to other WDMs in Saskatchewan. This one, the exhibit building is smaller than Saskatoon or Moose Jaw. The girl at the entrance said, " When you're done looking inside, go through the grey door at the back to see the outside stuff." Didn't take long to go through the building. Outside was a different story. There's a street with lots of buildings, old businesses, a couple of churches and houses. You walk down the wooden sidewalk and can go into the buildings. It's kind of a time-warp into early 20th-century small town Saskatchewan. Check out the Fire Hall and see the old fire fighting equipment. Your house would be a smoldering pile of embers if that's what was on the end of your 911 call. Ah, they were trying, and they didn't have 911. You'd have to ring up the telephone exchange lady and wake her up. That building is down the street to look at too. We were probably there 2 hrs and still didn't see everything. Ok, it ain't Disneyland or Vegas. We didn't expect that. If you're into nerdy museum type stuff to bring back memories or want to take little kids to see how people used to live, it's great. it's cheap entertainment. The grounds are well cared for. It's quite neat & tidy. It probably looks great mid-summer when the flowers are mature and blooming. I've driven through North Battleford for decades and saw the museum from the highway, and thought, I gotta go there sometime. So glad I...
Read moreThe Western Development Museum in Battleford, Saskatchewan, offers a fascinating glimpse into the province’s heritage. Visitors can explore a replica early 20th-century village, view an extensive collection of vintage agricultural machinery, and engage with interactive exhibits that highlight the evolution of farming. For a one-day picnic, start with a morning tour of the historic village and machinery exhibits, followed by a relaxing picnic lunch in the museum's scenic picnic area. In the afternoon, and conclude your visit with a stop at the gift shop for souvenirs. I paid $28 purchase tickets for our family, and we can visit again the next day and receive a discount at the other Western Development Museum locations in Saskatchewan, including Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Saskatoon, and Yorkton if we are...
Read moreA great place to visit. A step back in time to see how the early 1900settlers lived. Give yourself a couple of hours to glance through and comfortable shoes. Yes there is walking, but site to site is not far. The tractor display is impressive. The site could use a few guides to explain some of the farm equipment and how it was used. I come from a background that i have heard or seen or seen some of this stuff growing up. A large part of todays visitors would have no clue. At the time of my visit there was an interpretive display on refugees. It was informative and thought provoking. We who live in a country with such stability do not realize how...
