Lovely spot for a walk in the woods. Some areas of the park have hundred plus year old Black Oaks. The main loop takes about an hour at a moderate pace. I've only been here in the winter and the trails are kept quite nice. Unpaved, no gravel, so could be muddy in the spring. If you have a bad sense of direction, don't wander off the path marked as trails. Very few people stumbling around, since most of those types go directly to Ojibway which is quite close.

Trails seem to be mainly used for mountain biking. I hiked it, and it is very easy to get lost as the trails criss cross all over the place and even cross the tracks. Make sure you know how you came in so you can retrace your steps to leave. You can still see evidence of the old rail yard that used to be present here. I saw that on the trail they had areas with tons of tiles, not sure why but it was still unique to see.

Quiet place away from the Ojibway park crowds. Mix of prairie grass lands and new growth forest. Great bike trail on the south side of the park. Detroit river across on the north side of the park. Occasionally you'll see deer and snakes. Nice fenced in dog park at the entrance. Bridge construction and time of day might limit park access sometimes. Theres only 1 access point to the park now.

This is a great place if you're looking for an "Off the beaten path" type of bike trail. I'm not a biking enthusiast by any means and not too familiar with other trails the county has to offer. But this locale was definitely a FUN experience for both my younger son and myself. It's not a huge area, and there are some trail maps and directions you can follow if you feel you're getting twisted up. It's pretty easy to navigate, and you could really familiarize yourself with the trails if you have a good couple hours. It's not just for biking either. Some people were enjoying a nice walk in the conservation area type setting. We will be visiting again this year along with hoping to explore other areas of the county for...

Best mountain bike single track in Essex county. Full of unique forest and meadows, its easy to spot deer here and other wildlife.

Update June 2018: all singletrack is currently closed for an environmental study, find more info on the Friends of Black Oaks Facebook group

Update 2021: The Black Oak Single Track is still technically closed. I have moved on from Windsor, partly because of this city leadership's egregious disrespect for the environment and complete and utter disregard for single track users. If you want an example of how municipalities work with trail...

A beautiful, lovely preserved area within the city of Windsor. Windsorites must cherish and protect these amazing trees. They have been living here for hundreds of years and they deserve their space. The new bridge is going to be erected right next to the woods and will offer a beautiful green cover that is pleasing to the eyes - in contrast to the dark, industrial Zug Island in Michigan. A great place to walk through the woods, jog, run or bike. The trails are certainly...
