Always love camping at Long Point. Our favourite spot is in the Turtle Dunes area...all the sites are large and well maintained. It's awesome being so close to the beach. The beach is long and large with plenty of room to spread out. It is clean and well maintained by the park staff. This is a great place to bring your bike. There's also a cute ice cream shop about 6 km down the road. We also like going to the nature reserve just before you head into the park. There is a nice lookout there and a small trail. No trails at the campgrounds but it's lovely walking the beach. We saw so many stars on a clear night. You definitely want to go for a walk at night on the beach. Just be prepared for the weather here...it can change pretty quickly. The winds can be really strong as well. We went into Port Rowan on a rainy day. Check out the Burning Kiln Winery if you like wine tasting. It's lovely there. Overall, I really enjoy this park and recommend visiting....just be sure to pack a broom or whisk as there's lots of sand that gets in your tent !! 😉 But that's what happens when you beach camp 🏕

FYI We stayed at Turtle Dunes Site # 406 and Monarch's Rest Site # 360 (which is right by Beach # 6 and is a...

I tent camped the last week of August. Out of control on bitten flies in the park AND within the provincial park ONLY! Was bitten every minute in the campsite and I mean it. Flies were everywhere in Lake Erie area, but it was manageable (only being bitten ocassionally) in the nearby towns, attractions, wineries, beaches, but Long Point Provincial Park decided to do nothing to resolve the problem and blamed "bitten flies in season" (a paper sign was put up a day after we arrived). We left the site early everyday and were unwilling to return to the campsite before late dinner time just to avoid the flies. Our neighbors were all complaining about the flies, and we encountered campers left early due to the out of control flies situation. Extremely disappointing.

We camped in individual site. I checked adjacent sites and we all had the same problem. We talked to a camper at the gate and he was leaving early due to the flies situation. I had a feeling that the group campground was less affected.

If you want to visit Lake Erie/Long Point, try a different...

I've camped with family at Long Point twice, so I want to note this only happened during one of the trips. We noticed the first day after a major storm, that we were getting bitten by what that looked like house flies on the beach.||||Then there were thousands of them on the sand, everywhere. The second you stood still, ten flies landed on your legs biting you. Regular insect spray doesn't stop them and they're very aggressive. You could only protect yourself by being fully covered in towels or clothing, or being fully in the water.||||Then they came inland, and we had them around our sites, too. They were less by the campfire and stopped at night. We tried to escape for pizza in Port Rowan but they were everywhere in town too.||||I looked them up and it's not unusual for boaters along the shores of Lake Erie.||||The park is otherwise very clean, well maintained and the sites provide pretty good separation from your neighbours with dunes or vegetation between you. But the flies made the beach unbearable for people at times. Might want...

Updated*** It’s even more stunning in the summer with sand dunes, blue, clear waters of Lake Erie all in the lush backdrop of the provincial park! Just when I thought I had seen the most stunning provincial park, this gem of rustic and pure beauty raised the bar! From the drive through Port Dover to Port Rowan,it’s a rolling, winding drive through pastures, waterways & quaint towns. The park itself, is rural, rustic & somewhat desolate at this time of the year, as nearing end of season, but the sand dunes, red sands & roaring waves of Lake Erie’s warm waters was a paradise getaway, all in a day’s trip:) Aside from the scattered picnic tables on the beach shore, amenities are throughout the campsite. If you prefer the “road less travelled “, this maybe very enticing! Since it was my first visit, very likely the ambience & visitors are significantly enhanced in peak season but nevertheless, planning to return. Some of the road signs: “Turtles crossing”, “Give wildlife a chance” & the scariest for me was the sign,” Brake for snakes “. Enjoy!

A glamping experience that is sure to be rewarding for the whole family. Ample sites spaced far apart. Tennants are generally courteous with most noisy sites completely quiet by 11:00. Convenience stations are well situated, clean, and well provisioned with laundry, shower, and bathroom stations. Large central playground, very popular with the young campers. Very nice long sandy beach, not too crowded. I was surprised by the ample wildlife. Generally more than I have seen in other parks. Somewhat pleasing natural surrounding, but the wide flat marshland may be uninteresting for the hardcore outdoor type. Park staff are somewhat overzealous but I suppose it is well worth the payback for a clean orderly well maintained park experience. Overall a great experience for the trailer going family. Perfect for outdoor multifamily tent / trailer events, with many children. Hikers and portage enthusiasts, might want to look further north.

I particularly want to review the "Dogs Allowed" section of Long Point Provincial Park. We've often been to the "normal" beach, but after acquiring a couple of dogs in the last two years, we wanted to include them in our annual "Beach Day" outing. We couldn't find much online describing that section of the beach, so we just showed up and hoped for the best. Well, it was wonderful! The dog beach is at the end closest to the entrance, but it is otherwise just as clean and swimmable as the rest of it. The sand was beautiful and the water was warm and clean. We cleaned up carefully after our dogs and we didn't notice any other dog mess anywhere, so it seems like everyone is being responsible. There were fewer people at that end too, so it was win-win all around!
