It's the perfect 'has everything in raw nature' park! It's got a lovely little tree & rock lined pond with ducks & geese, 2 enclosed dog parks, plenty of parking, a playground for kids, picnic tables & BBQ's, there so very many wonderful paths to walk or bike on (paved, dirt, grassy, gravel), meadows to stroll through, grassy area's to play / picnic on, hills to climb up on, a peak from which to see the park and the city surrounding area & over to the Detroit city-scape & the Ambassador Bridge, many different forests to walk through - all throughout the park, and an abundance of critters to see/hear, from squirrels, bunnies, and even reindeer, if you're lucky, along with an aray of birds, which grace you with bird-song & trilling in the peaceful silence, depending on the time & area within the park. And finally, there's a building beside the pond, with toilets on the outside of it - with indoor / outdoor banquet / event space to rent. All in all, I truly do believe that Malden Park is a people-park, that has everything needed, to provide enjoyment, passive leisure and some peace of mind. A visit here, has always left me with a smile...
Read moreGreat place for families or nature lovers. Lots of hiking opportunities. The park is nice and kids love it. Options of dirt paths, gravel paths, and concrete paths for those who want to hike at their own preference. Personally, I like some of the dirt paths hidden among the woods at the top of the hill. They're great for birding and enjoying insect life.
Given its a nature park, I will say that the mosquitoes are vicious here, especially in the woods to the side of the duck pond. Bring bug spray or enjoy the drier sections of the park instead. Also, goose poop is a given. It's nature. Gonna be messy in some ways.
I love the new native flower garden up on the new observation platform. It both looks beautiful and offers native flowers for our native wildlife to benefit from.
Heads up those with dogs and kids who may run through the brush--there are ticks out. Kid did bring one home on him. So be aware!
I'd give 5 stars, because I love nature and I expect those things from nature, but the mosquitoes and ticks should be made aware of for...
Read moreTook my Corgi for a walk and I couldn't believe the amount of bird feces that was EVERYWHERE. In the mulch around the gardensand trees, in the grass and the walkways were almost completely covered in it. I had planed on a long walk but I ended up turning around and going home. I had to give my dog a bath because he was just covered in feces. His paws and his fur. A woman with another dog came up to us when we started walking and warned us of a particular path where her dog had just gotten sprayed by a skunk. This was 3:00 in the afternoon. At the time we were there, there was a wedding being held in the building in the park and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the couple. It actually looked like people weren't staying very long. Nobody really left the pavilion I'm assuming because of all the mess the birds had left. I understand about the wildlife but if it's not going to be hospitable for humans to venture there, maybe it should be closed down and used strictly for wildlife. I just know I'll...
