Great park but better in the summer. Then we can sit at a bench and toss the ball. There are also ramps into the rideau river where the dogs can swim. I haven't been here for almost 3 years as it was closed for city water install and they've now fenced off a 1/4 of the residential side of the park. The parking area is a little larger, perhaps 10 cars max but unfortunately some drivers carelessly don't park courteously. I won't know for 3 months but my dog & i used to enjoy the stream on the area across from the parking area. It's limited use , perhaps, 6 dogs as the shore line is steep and dangerous when muddy. Spring time will provide a clearer picture. The last time i was there the ramps, installed poorly, two years earlier were in dangerous disrepair for the dogs. They had installed a honeycomb configuration but much of the structure was broken and the earth underneath had eroded. A dog or a humans leg could easily step into the fractures with...
Read moreAfter a few too many run-ins with aggressive dogs and unresponsible owners at Bruce Pit we decided to look a little closer to home to find this park. Although there are only a few short weeks a year that the park is mud free, it is definitely worth the mess because the dogs have a blast in the water! The owners are generally friendly and dog savvy. From my experience this park is preferred by owners that will allow the dogs to communicate on their own terms and step in only when it's necessary. It's a perfect fit for my dog who is not aggressive at all, but does like to play rough with...
Read moreBest dog park ever. Huge, has grassy areas, shady areas, three river access points. Two are on the main channel, deep water, and one is across the parking lot on the back channel..nice knee deep wading. They have stabilized the banks of the main channel, it's no longer a dangerous muddy slope. The back channel access is not for the frail, twisty exposed tree roots, rocks and mud, not too bad though. Parking lot is small but there is parking along the street south of the entrance. Even if you park WAY south of the entrance, there is gap or two in the fence along the...
