Kelso Beach at Nawash Park — Attraction in Owen Sound

I chose to give it 4 stars because it seems to be a great place for the kids and for some adults. It has a nice splash pad and a playground and a public washroom all within very close proximity to each other. Plenty of seating benches and picnic tables for parents to sit and watch their kids and/or have a family meal together . Many garbage bins are around as well, which is nice to have to avoid problems with litter. A nice little sandy beach beside it and surrounded by shoreline so you could easily pick a spot to go fishing without being in the way of anyone or vice versa. Also a great area for some light water activities such as kayaking, canoeing, kite boarding, paddleboarding, etc. It's also got some nice views and an excellent paved walkway for biking or jogging or walking. There is a large covered structure with tons of picnic tables and I believe I've seen a foot washing station as well. This place actually deserves more than a 5 star rating but there's one thing in particular that doesn't sit well with me. I often see individuals without kids using the park as a place to hide and drink their alcohol somewhat hidden. I mean if their not hurting anyone and just minding their own business and just want a place to relax and drink and be left alone peacefully I understand that but as a parent it sort of takes away that worry free feeling you get from places that are meant to be family friendly and family oriented and I've seen some syringes 💉 around also. Those two issues alone really put a damper on my mood there. Overall great place very well designed 👌 great planning and consideration went into it and I think it's one of the city's greatest features but there's still some work that can be done to improve it and make it safer for kids and pets. During my recent visit, I discovered a hidden gem of a park nestled alongside a stunning beach. The park's pristine surroundings and well-maintained facilities left a lasting impression. The washrooms were clean and well-equipped, providing a sense of comfort and convenience. It's always a relief to find such well-maintained amenities in a public park.

PLEASE tread carefully while driving past or around this area!! There are many squirrels, and beautiful precious creatures that call this area home. It breaks my heart and dirties my shovel everytime I have to stop and bury one that has been killed by a motorist. Last summer a huge beautiful Canadian goose, a healthy alpha Fox and a strong alpha beaver amongst several large healthy squirrels were amongst the animals I was shedding tears over as I removed them from the road and buried them.
