I love their wine so I was very excited to go to the bistro for our wedding anniversary. Made reservations for the patio to celebrate. When we arrived the manager Gord said he had nothing for me and questioned how I made the reservation like it was my fault. Once he found my name he told me that inside would be my only option. I was totally shocked and went to sit with my husband. There were tables outside available. After 5 straight minutes of no one acknowledging us we were asked if we wanted water. We left instead. I was so angry and felt so judged by the manager I couldn't even speak. We were clearly not old enough, white enough or dressed well enough to suit the manager. Why else would someone treat us so poorly? I would love an explanation. I remembered that I needed to pick up something for my sister who's a front line health care worker (apparently there was a special case available for them). I angrily went back in and inquired about it praying not to have to speak with the manager. He did a 180 and treated me sooooo differently when he thought I was the health care provider. When I told him it was for me he said it wouldn't be possible during dinner service. Didn't suggest any other time. He then said a table became available on the patio. I really wanted to experience the chef at Play so we stayed for dinner. Food was good and beautifully presented but the experience was marred by the general manager who was shmoozing with a table for the entire time. Servers we friendly and nice. Wine...
Read moreJust had an enjoyable lunch at Play Winery only to be completely ruined by the Restaurant Manager ( Maryanne, I think her name was) Purchased three gift certificates pre covid and decided to finally use them while my family was visiting from Australia. When the bill was presented, I presented the gift certificates only to be told they had expired and were no longer valid as the winery had been sold and was under new ownership. This was in fact not true as the operators of the restaurant had partnered with the current ownership.. For those that are not aware the law in British Columbia states that purchased gift certificates do not expire!! If the company has been purchased with a complete name change then yes they are obviously not valid.
The Restaurant Manager that argued this fact with us table side was extremely unprofessional and instead of trying to school us on the legality of purchased gift certificates, she should have just taken them and said hope you enjoyed your lunch and we look forward to hosting you again in the future. Maryanne, you really need to work on your People/PR skills because you get a F from this party. We are locals in Penticton and used to frequent Play Winery regularly and unfortunately will never return again. In addition we will be sure to tell many our...
Read moreMy wife and I dined at The Vista Restaurant at Play Estate Winery tonight, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The food was exceptional, and the service elevated the evening to another level.
I had the Creole Seafood Schnitzel, a perfectly breaded pork cutlet topped with a flavorful creole sauce, prawns, and crab meat, served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Every bite was incredible, with bold flavors and fresh ingredients.
My wife enjoyed the Creole Chicken, a juicy 7oz chicken breast/leg paired with mashed potatoes, creole sauce, and seasonal vegetables. She loved it!
Our server, Nate, was outstanding. He welcomed us warmly, was incredibly informative about the menu, and provided top-notch service throughout the evening.
The atmosphere and view is amazing, and we can’t wait to return.
Highly recommend The Vista Restaurant at Play Estate Winery for an unforgettable dining experience!
