Today visited the Riverview Park and Zoo in Peterborough, and it was a delightful experience! This zoo is a fantastic place for families, offering free admission and a variety of animals and attractions that can keep you entertained for hours. The zoo is well-maintained with clean facilities, and the animals seem well cared for, which is always a priority for me when visiting zoos. The layout of the park makes it easy to navigate, and there's plenty of signage to help you find your way around. The highlight for me was the miniature train ride, which offers a fun tour around the park — a hit not only with the kids but with adults too! The park also has excellent playgrounds for children, and the scenic setting by the Otonabee River provides a perfect backdrop for a family outing. Whether you're local or just passing through Peterborough, I highly recommend stopping by the Riverview Park and Zoo for a day of fun and education. It's a great way to enjoy nature and learn about wildlife without breaking the bank.

Went there on a Saturday with family. Ample and free parking space. Entire park and zoo is absolutely free expect for the train ride which is $2 per person. We were able to go around the entire park in an hour and kids spent an hour in splash pad. The park has big garbage bins located to dispose the waste from your picnic day out. I saw Muslim family offering zohr in congregation, it was beautiful to watch the prayer in the middle of the park. The staff is super polite and helpful, from the guest services to train ride, young staff putting out their best. The train seems to be main attraction so there is quite a wait for it. We waited about 20 mins. Train takes you above the dam reservoir showing small waterfall, infinity lake view, through the forest where they have put animal boards and statues. The zoo has unique animals like barbaric goats, camels but not a lot animals. Petting is not allowed unfortunately. If you live in West, the drive is totally worth it. Fun place for a day picnic.

Wow! The Riverview Park and Zoo is fabulous! It is owned and operated by the City of Peterborough so it has a really open and inclusive feel. It's free to visit here! No admission. There is also a waterpark and a separate playground right at the entrance. Really well maintained, clean and inviting. There is a cute little train ride (3 dollars), at the other end of the park. Some of the animals we saw were parrots, lynx, otters, wallabies, a tortoise, lemurs, monkeys, reptiles, capybara and more!! There is a lovely canteen midway through the park where they serve ice cream, drinks, burgers and hot dogs, fries and popcorn. Other items available I'm sure. The washroom near the waterpark was busy and wet...to be expected. The washroom further into the park was quieter and tidier. I think the staff and the city do a fabulous job running this property. I was truly impressed and had a fabulous day! I will be back!!

Fabulous place for kids!! A MUST! My kids still love it (age range 7-14). We make the long trip one to three times a year! It is free and younger kids can handle the amount of walking. Toronto Zoo is too much for them. This place has a zoo (even camels), and incredible amount of playground equipment (even a massive tube slide that I would estimate is around 8-10 meters long), great splash pad, gift shop, washrooms, changeroom, snack shop, and a train ride. The train ride is the only thing that costs money. The last I checked, it was $2 per kid; parents ride free. They have an Otter and a Meet the Keeper demo. The Otter feeding is always fun for kids; it is around 1 or 1:30. They love to watch them swimming above and below water. *See my pics for more info. I don't have pics of all of the playground options. Oops, forgot to take a pic of the massive tube slide!

Lovely zoo and park, I would gladly have paid to visit. Donating instead :) The fact that it was free to visit and park was a bonus! Loved the train ride at the end of the zoo! Wished we had brought our little wagon to carry our snacks and water bottles. Our almost 5 year old wanted to be carried on the walk back. The wagon would make the visit even better. It's lots of walking for little feet :) we loved the meerkat's, such funny little animals. We also enjoyed the otters 🦦. Watching them swim around in the aquarium. We can't wait to go back if we are ever in the area again. There is a nice splash pad and lots of play structures at the parks entrance. Lots of places to sit and eat your lunch/picnic. The grounds are huge and extend beyond the gated area of the zoo. A nice family day for all ages :)
