Fishing for Success — Attraction in Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove

my family and I had the opportunity to join Captain Leo and his crew to a private boat tour. we had the hopes of seeing some whales but as it was out of his control, instead we got to establish amazing relationships with the entire staff of Fishing For Success.

I think this place will forever hold a spot in my heart because of how welcomed we had felt plus the amazing & respectful treatment we were given. I can tell FFS is a chosen family, and they had extended a hand to my family and I. we got to chat with them all day and enjoy some crab, lobster and a delicious watermelon. Leo is full of knowledge and he can tell a mean story if you’re willing to listen. I also loved Kimberly, she’s the brains of the operation and helped schedule our appointment time.

As an introvert, I normally feel a bit awkward and shy but his crew made super to pull me out and made sure I was comfortable which really made me feel warm and happy. the crew are made up of the biggest heart of golds and I really do hope to see them again.

This place is safe for all queers and trans folk! I cannot stress that enough! the way they express their support is subtle but enough to know that you are welcome and do not need to fear.

My parents are filled to the brim with excitement from our time with FFS and they’ve already began to plan their next visit so we can spend time again with Captain...

An absolute must-do experience in Newfoundland!

We recently booked with Fishing for Success while hosting business partners from the mainland — one of whom had never been to the island, let alone been cod fishing — and the entire experience blew us away. From the moment we arrived, Leo and Jess made everyone feel welcome, informed, and at ease. Whether you’re a first-timer or a born-and-bred Newfoundlander (like some of us), this is a trip that leaves a lasting impression.

Between the 15 cod we landed, the whales and puffins we spotted, and the stunning views along the coast, the whole day felt like a love letter to Newfoundland. And it didn’t stop there — Liam’s post-fishing meal was out of this world. We brought our fresh cod home and enjoyed the most delicious tacos we’ve ever had. Every detail was thoughtful, authentic, and deeply rooted in the spirit of the island.

A huge thank you to Kimberly, Leo, Jess, and Liam — you gave us and our guests an experience we’ll never forget. We’ll be recommending this to anyone visiting (and rebooking ourselves soon!).

I was meaning to review fishing for success for a long time now, I had the pleasure of meeting Leo and Kimberely when I moved from Ireland to Canada in the summer of 2015, the luck of the story is I was blessed to have lived in petty harbour Newfoundland for 6 months and made great friends with Leo Hearn and he's wife Kimberely who were our neighbours, to make a long story short...you only meet people like this once in a lifetime, they would never see you stuck or hungry and they are true salt of the earth hard working Newfoundlanders, I watched Leo graft day in and day out building he's business, this will surely be a success because nobody knows fishing like Leo Hearn does, if your looking for the cod or daytrip to whale watch or see icebergs, Leo and Kimberely Hearn of fishing for success are the BEST in there field and I would like to wish them the best in the future..
