I have never been compelled to write a review before, but after months of reflection I feel I owe anyone who might actually come and check the reviews prior to booking a word of warning. We were given one solo practice run before our first line. On this first official line we were told to go in tandem - something they didn't get us to practice. The person behind me (in charge of breaking for the two of us) did not realize they would be unable to see the platform around my helmet. They failed to break causing us to crash full-speed into the platform. These "crashpads" are incredibly thin and were not thick, wide, or long enough to prevent me from sustaining a concussion, fractured vertebrae, and sprained back.
My family voicing their concerns to the guides - who seemed themselves unbothered and mentioned "it happens all the time". A guide casually asked if I was alright to keep going. I replied, "well is there even another way down?". "I guess not really", they chuckled in response.
After continuing 9 lines and a full hour down the mountain I was rushed to the ER. Where they found that I had luckily not broken my neck - as they originally feared. However I still was unable to work for 4 months due to my injuries.
I hope that in the next season they will give more time on the practice line - getting people to feel what tandem is like before thrusting them down a mountain. You can't trust that everyone of your customers has common sense - and I think there should be a greater sense of obligation to risk management and ensuring that every customer has practiced all forms of zipping they will do prior to their...
Read moreTook my 5 teenaged kids on a remarkably hot day. Regrettably I got heat sick part way through. The staff handled it very professionally and reassured me while they worked quickly to get me back without disrupting everyone else's trip. Caitlin volunteered to get me back, which I'm sure was not an enviable task given that I was disoriented and I'll at the time. She got me back to the base while the rest of the people had a great time. Thank you so much Caitlin (I'm sorry if I'm misspelling your name as I only heard it spoken, not written) and the rest of the team for being respectful to me at my worst, and giving my kids a great time.
Warning to others: if you're older and not in great shape, there is a significant amount of hiking uphill - of which I was duly warned - and on a hot day it can be a bit much. There is no fast way back down other than the zip lines, so be aware of what you're getting into. This in no way reflects on the staff or facility as it was entirely my fault, and I highly recommend the experience to anyone who is adventurous and...
Read moreThis was such a fun experience!! We went as a large group with the youngest being 11. The guides were fantastic and made sure everyone had a good time. My 11 year old was nervous about braking by herself, but the guides stepped in and took her tandem, ensuring she didn’t get left out. It was all smiles after that! Thanks guys! You made her day and her first ever zip line experience unforgettable!
The course was great! The lines aren’t overly high with lots of long runs. There is a fairly steep hike at the beginning with planked trails. I highly recommend you bring a bottle of water. There are garbage pales at the platforms so you don’t have to carry your trash. There is a water stop at tower 8, but we could have used some right at the beginning after the initial hike. The rest of the hikes between towers were short and easy. Be prepared for the steep climb at the beginning though!
Thanks again North Atlantic Zipline! We will be...
