This is a 26 acre park in the northwest corner of Richmond that is set along the mighty Fraser River. There is also a boat launch located here.

The beach walk offers a beautiful view across the river looking towards south Vancouver. The dirt road slightly inland offers a walk amongst the flora and gives you a view of the open fields close to the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Whichever path you choose, this is an easy level walk. Walking, running, swimming and digging in the sand is the fun that can be had by dogs both big and small.

Words of caution:

This is a very powerful river, so I wouldn't throw sticks too far into the water for your dog to fetch as it could get caught in the undertow or get swept off in the current. There have been a few incidents in the news that I know of when this has happened. Luckily there were boaters nearby to aid in successful rescues.

I have also seen coyotes further down the dirt road. Keep your dogs closeby and don't let them wander off into the brush and bushes, especially if they are small.

Enjoy, stay alert...

Hidden gem alert! MacDonald Beach Park boasts a fantastic off-leash dog park that's perfect for furry friends to roam freely. The sandy terrain is gentle on the knees, making it ideal for leisurely walks with your canine companion. Even after a downpour, the park remains relatively mud-free, ensuring a pleasant experience for both dogs and their owners.

One of the park's standout features is its diverse terrain, ranging from hard-packed gravel paths to soft sandy trails. This variety adds an extra element of exploration and adventure to your walks, keeping things interesting for both you and your pup.

In terms of convenience, the parking lot is generously sized, providing ample space for visitors even during peak times. This makes parking hassle-free and adds to the overall accessibility and enjoyment of the park. Whether you're a local looking for a regular spot to unwind with your dog or a visitor seeking a peaceful retreat by the coast, MacDonald Beach Park's off-leash dog area is sure to delight both humans and their furry...

Great Park. Great dog walk. Only boat launch on Sea Island or North Arm (needs repairs). Please watch out for the live-in CARETAKER. He is a hostile and angry man. He locked five vehicles with people, dogs and KIDS inside the park on a weekday evening for over an hour. "To teach them a lesson". The park closed at 5pm. He went to each vehicle, one by one and tried to pick a fight with the driver. Children were scared. City of Richmond had to intervene (Thank you!). RCMP were next. Families were begging to be let out, to go home. He kept on saying, "I don't get paid for overtime." City of Richmond and YVR: Please replace the Caretaker or leave the gate unlocked until the...

Sun’s out, zoomies out! I had the best day running wild at the McDonald Beach off-leash area in Richmond! 10/10 would zoom again. . . #dogpark #dog #sunnyday

I recently utilized the boat launch at McDonald's Park and had a mixed experience. While the location offers convenient access to the river, the boat launch itself is in need of dredging. It's advisable to avoid launching during super low tides as it could pose difficulties. On the positive side, the bathrooms were clean and there was ample parking available. I also appreciated the fact that the area was never too crowded. Once on the water, it was a pleasant 15-minute boat ride down the river to reach the mouth. Overall, while the boat launch could use some improvement, McDonald's Park remains a decent option for those looking to embark on a river adventure out to the ocean.
