Great municipal park close to downtown area. Over the last 5 yrs or so major work has been done to upgrade the park which includes a Playground, Splash pad, Softball Pitch, outdoor swimming pool, Bandstand and an amazing outdoor skating loop. The park is well lit and we'll maintained and includes a number of sculptures and memorials both old and new.
The park first opened in 1891 so as you can imagine it has lots of large mature trees.
The park is located adjacent to the newly restored "Colonial Building" which was the site of the Newfoundland Parliament before Confederation and the original house of Assembly after confederation.
Across the street is the location of Government House the home of the Lt Governor and it is a very short walk to St. Thomas Anglican Church an amazing old wooden church that predates the St. John's great fire that destroyed most of the downtown.
On a person note as a young boy who attended Bishop Field Boys school on Bond St which is close by I spent considerable time in the park during school lunch break... playing tag on the monkey bars, collecting chestnuts from the parts trees and playing touch football.

Good for relaxing and having fun. Very busy when there are funfair events taking place. The grass and trees are very nice. The trees provide good shade from the summer sun.
Good for family outing. Very friendly for little children. Children can ride on bikes and just have fun. Live music are available on funfair days.
A little restaurant and fast food center for buying snacks, sweets ice-cream and drinks is available.
Pets are allowed here. And the pets truly have fun too.
When there are no funfair or events, it is really a serene and quite place for relaxing and calming the mind to think.

Take a stroll through the parks trails and discover memories placed on the bricks which has been placed on the ground as you stroll around the water fountain and some history reguarding the park and who left a little something to add for future generations and visitors from everywhere In the winter time the park is turned into a beautiful outdoor skating loop for the public to use free of charge and is also well lite . it's a great place for a romantic skate date under the stars which is well lite up.
