Tried for another local park but it was pouring with rain there. Headed over to Redwood Park 15 minutes away and found the sunshine available for free. This is a well known local park that allows you to walk on well maintained trails through the woods which periodically open out into fields with plenty of room for kids to run around freely under your watchful eye. There is also a nice looking playground area with well maintained equipment. The area is also very popular with dog walkers with about 12 different canines being seen today having a great time exploring, on leash of course in keeping with local bylaws (when in sight of other dog walkers anyway), and no signs of any dog poop. Still being in March jackets were required but it was warm enough out to leave them open. Plenty of wooden seats around, lots of picnic tables, many of which were covered with roofs to ensure dry eating. For those who like to disappear and get some wonderful fresh air, this would have been the day to do it. The main free large parking lot contained only about six cars and two Surrey workers sitting in a nice shaded spot for about an hour watching people come and go. While you couldn’t avoid people totally they were far and few between and could be forgotten about when in the wooded area. While this is a great little park with lots of little hiking paths it is not somewhere to go for a great hike in the country. Exploring as many areas as I could I pretty much covered the area in an hour. However it is great for a short stroll and for parents to let their younger ones burn off a lot of energy running on the trails and using the playground areas. Kids are permitted to run off-leash meaning they will get home exhausted and sleep well. My only disappointment was that even though there is some type of outdoor sculpture containing six water taps, not a single one could fulfill its purpose. Yes, it is still early in year but the weather is improving so it is time the two legged and four legged-visitors will be in need of liquid refreshment. And this was a midweek day and I assume the park will be a lot busier at the weekend. At least turn on the bottom tap just above the ground for the pets. I did not check if water was available in the washrooms, but still one tap outside would have helped. Overall I would say this is a family oriented park with amenities focussed more towards the young ones. But older strollers and dog walkers can enjoy too. While the relative quietness could be enjoyed, there was a constant hum of traffic going by on 20th Avenue and area. While not too distracting, it was a little disappointing. Overall a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon and all you have to do is pay for the gas to get there...
Read moreLast Sunday, we visited Redwood Park in Surrey, BC, and it was a truly serene and rejuvenating experience. Nestled in a quiet corner of the city, the park is a hidden gem that offers a perfect escape into nature without having to travel far.
The towering redwood trees, some of which are over 100 years old, create a majestic canopy that instantly transports you to a tranquil, forested world. The cool, fresh air and the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves made for a peaceful stroll along the well-maintained trails. The park is well-marked with signs, so it's easy to navigate whether you're taking a leisurely walk or a more extended hike.
One of the highlights was the treehouse, a charming structure that adds a whimsical touch to the park. It's a great spot for families with children or anyone looking for a unique photo opportunity. There are also plenty of benches scattered throughout the park, offering places to sit, relax, and soak in the natural beauty.
For those interested in history, the park has a rich background. It was established by the Brown brothers, who planted many of the exotic trees found here today. Their legacy lives on, making Redwood Park not just a natural haven but also a place of historical significance.
Overall, Redwood Park is a must-visit for anyone in the Surrey area. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or just looking for a peaceful retreat, this park has something to offer everyone. We left feeling refreshed and more connected to the natural world, and we're already looking forward to...
