The Craigleith Heritage Depot: What a delightful experience! A museum and library tucked into the last Grand Trunk Railway Station. This captivating structure overlooks the Georgian Bay offering some incredible views outside and lots to see inside. Examine real fossils embedded in stone, see work from local artisans, purchase your own geode, step out onto the veranda to enjoy the view of Georgian Bay, 'watch for the train' from the tower room and discover the distance to three towns, find out what connection Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and Jean Cretien, the Minister of Indian Affairs have with one or more displays, make use of their research, museum and archival services, and so much more. Do yourself a favour and ask the fabulously knowledgeable and friendly staff questions about subjects like: stories from visitors, favourite displays, what remains from the restaurant days, how the train passengers entered the building, or their favourite task(s) and/or experience(s). The answers can amuse, enlighten, surprise, or impress you. This is a must stop and check it out for yourself, if only for the views! Set aside at least half an hour to walk through and note things of interest. However, as this is a library, and a research facility, as well as a museum, you can find ways to spend countless hours here and still find reasons to return. Want to wet your appetite? Visit their website, I saw a link to their virtual museum there, but have yet to try it myself.

We were driving to get apples at Almond's Meaford and stopped to check out Northwinds Beach. I saw that Craigleith Heritage Depot was nearby. This is small museum/heritage/travel info all in one. I got a friendly welcome and invitation to browse the exhibits. Lots of things happened here. There are a few rooms and they are arranged by theme and topic. It has connections to Sir Sanford Fleming, originally built in late 1870s. It served ans the train station until the 1960s. In the 1940s it was popular with skiiers to take the train from Toronto. Then it was vacant from 1960 to 1964, when it was operated as a restaurant by Kenn and Suyrea Knappman until 1999, then it was again vacant for a time. It was purchased in 2001 by the Town of the Blue Mountains. It is now a museum/heritage Centre. Plan on taking friends to see...
