This review is from someone who is an intermediate climber, a recent member (i bought an annual membership), and
Boulderparc is exactly what the name is. While skateparks have skateboarding (and I think scooters) bouldering is basically a bouldering park. There is absolutely no top rope, lead, or sport climbing here.
Space: The gym is a modest size which in my opinion looks bigger on the inside than on the outside. There are two main islands with a division in the center with plenty of space to walk. Another thing about this gym is the chairs and tables, along with a work out studio and upstairs to do work or chill. The upstairs is incredibly beautiful. Changerooms are plenty and washrooms are sufficient. Plenty of space to hang coats around. Lastly there is a place to train in the back that has everything you need to train for climbing, namely bouldering; squat rack, hang board, campus board, tension board, etc.
Climbing: the climbing itself is amazing. Lots of beginner climbs and higher grades to challenge any seasoned climber. I would say that this gym can suit any climber, but also can be a place where anyone can go to really get better at bouldering. You have an arrangement of climbs with adequate problems for all levels of climbing so even if you're a beginner or a pro, there's fun stuff for everyone.
Vibe check: It do be vibing here. People are friendly, encouraging, nice, and did I mention encouraging? You will notice that people here want you to succeed in your climbing and don't be surprised when strangers yell at you, "you can do it" or "come on! You got it!". I think this is a reflection of the owners, their vision for a good community shows. There is a strong instagram community/ the staff do an amazing job on social media to promote nothing but good vibes and updates.
I could say more but why make this review even longer? You have my take on this gym which is it's great! Check it out if you love climbing, especially if you...
Read more$96/month tax in... Nah. There's inflation, then there's greed
Edit** -Have to rant about the recent event 'Summer social' The $15 competition did not include entry, ended up paying extra 25 for entry (total $45 tax in). Don't call it 'free food' when a hot dog is clearly charged on the receipt. Thats deceiving. Did not even get the free boba despite coming early. I know recently other climbing places like bloc event was free entry and free food or when there was a comp I remember getting a t shirt and it was cheaper.
-also brought my beginner friend out here and she did not enjoy it as much as other climbing places. Very few that she was able to try and climb. This place is def catered to higher end intermediate to advanced. -the grading system just seems so inconsistent v1 or v0 slab walls are stupidly hard and v1 and zero on non slab wall are significantly easier.
+Routes are well spaced and distinguished from one another +Clean well kept facility +Spacious layout and pleasing to the eye +Friendly staff +Yoga facility +Cafe +Gym area
-Cafe area could use some expansion -was expecting a bit more climbing walls (far right is just an empty wall) -community/staff seems disconnected/in their own cliques. The larger space in this facility can discourage a tighter community -the climbing tags/labels are hard to see, this was the same for my friends who had to walk up to see the numbers -the higher levels just felt like more power/reachy moves which wasn't so great for my shorter friends -redundancy from waiver to having to type in your details again after running...
Read moreI went to Boulder Parc this past weekend, and it was such a great experience. From the moment you walk in, you can see the cleanliness of the facility, and appreciate the amount of work that the staff puts in to keep it well maintained. There was ample communal storage, and chalk as well, which I thought was a nice gesture and touch from BP.
The climbs were also very fun, and consistent according to their grading scale. After doing about 10 climbs, there weren't any routes where I thought grading was completely off. They all involved needing to use various techniques, and strategic thinking to solve each problem.
Something that also stood out with BP was their point system, which involves using an mobile phone app and tracking down the climbs that you do. Although I did not partake in this myself, it was interesting to see who was topping the leader boards.. Maybe next time.
There is a good amount of tables set up near the front of the gym, where people can just gather and chill. With the open concept style of the gym, you can essentially see everything. I thought this was pretty cool. It was nice just getting a chance to sit and chat amongst friends after climbing.
All and all, it was a great experience at Boulder Parc. I would definitely recommend this climbing gym to new climbers and...
