I've been skiing here for 12 seasons and it easily qualifies as my "favourite small ski hill in Manitoba"! I learned to ski here so it holds a special place in my heart. The chalet is quaint but rustic, always carrying the scent of pine in the air. Over the years they have improved the décor and facilities to upgrade the building while maintaining it's heritage. The staff is helpful and friendly, sometimes asking guests for feedback on aspects of the resort; there's even a couple friendly ski patrol dogs! The hill itself is the reason I like the place, it's about the closest to a hole-in-the-wall BC resort you can get at an 1/8th the size. 1/2 the people who come for the day are XC skiers so despite the bustle in the chalet, it's fairly quiet on hill. The fact they rely on natural snow more means you can actually lay fresh tracks in deep snow if you don't mind walking to the Sunshine Slope or weaving through tight trees. My only real complaint about the place is the jumps in the terrain park; they either launch you too high or the landings are too flat/too far back to use. If they got their jump construction on point like Springhill or Asessippi's, it'd be the best resort around in my books. Otherwise the rails are unique to the hill and are usually set up well, though nobody complains if I decide to fix a rail's jump (the park crew are volunteers anyway).
Overall, this a great place for winter activities or to just relax without that 'big...
Read moreJust went on a Monday to Winter hike both the Top of the World and High Lake trails. Gorgeous with all the deep powder snow on all the evergreen trees and underbrush. Trails were perfect having just enough recent use with the fresh snow to be packed soft underfoot but not yet hard enough to be slippery. Its a shame there are not additional trails to explore walking in winter through this area it was so nice. First time visit and this was a nice 3 hours of hiking while stopping for lots of pictures. Lots of nordic ski trails that would love to come back to try another day. Lots of hills so not sure how easy but if you know what you're doing these would be awesome. Some Nordic ski trails also go onto the lakes. There are remote cabins you can also rent right on the shoreline of High Lake through the lodge. Some look large and spacious. Have not tried the downhill ski slopes or lodge, just hiking for now. This year is very busy so they request you come during week so they can accommodate their downhillers...
Read moreThe staff taking food orders were polite, however while I was waiting for my food I was approached by another staff member and told to wait outside for my food. I was confused as the staff at the order window didn't explain this to me and I wanted to know how they would know to bring the food outside, but when questioned, this staff member rudely brushed me off and told me again to wait outside. However immediately after, my name was called inside to collect my food. This needs to be addressed as my friend also had a negative experience with the same staff member telling her to go outside.
The slopes were short as you expect in Manitoba but the park sections had a variety of features for beginner to intermediate park skiing. The lift attendants were...
