An absolute puppy paradise. Beautiful off-leash park for dogs (and their people) to have a fun adventure. I started coming here this summer and I just love the mix of scenery: huge open fields, a forest with tons of little trails to explore, and of course the Red River, which borders much of the park. Almost all people and dogs I have met have been really nice and overall the park is really clean. I find the amount of fencing is perfectly adequate to contain my dog who does not stray that far from me. (For those with dogs who wander, just note that there are some minor gaps where your dog could get out of the park if they really wanted to.) There is also a very big puppy play pen, but it's tucked in the middle of the forest, not by the entrance. Some of the forest trails get a bit mucky after rain, so I'd recommend boots. Also not a bad idea to bring a towel in the summer in case your dog runs down...
Read moreThe best of the city off-leash dog parks. Little Mountain Park on the north side of the city is comparable if you are nearer to it.
The park is bounded by the Red River for swimming dogs. There are two huge fields with wide paths. In between is a wooded area with trails. Looked for a fenced enclosure reserved for puppies.
Drawbacks are ticks in the summer and mud in late spring or after a heavy rain. You may need to drop by a DIY dog wash station at a local pet store. There are always at least a dozen dogs loose so a great opportunity for socialization. Thank you for volunteers who keep jugs of water at the entrance.
DO take your poop bags and pick up after. Some don't. Grrr. Bring fetching toys and treats. Some dogs find freedom irresistible and don't come on call. Keep an eye open for pack behavior. Several dogs can gang...
Read moreFriendly people and dogs. Space to let the dog run and space to be alone Trees and benches in sun and shade. Free parking in lot and along road. Access to park is from St Mary's Road and Perimeter Hwy. Access needs improvement for saftey if coming off the Perimeter from the east and west and when leaving the access road headed north. The park is near the river so some younger larger dogs some times come back wet and muddy if they take off through the trees on the far north side. Lots of stations to dispose of waste and people are good about picking up their dogs waste. The speed on the service road is 30 which helps keep the dust down for dog park users and other nearby users: football, ultimate frisby, fishing and other community used. The service road has really bad pot holes from time to...
