This is a must-visit spot for visitors and locals alike. You can really feel the time, care, and heart that volunteers poured into building this mining museum. The displays are well laid out, and there’s even an interactive area for kids.
There’s also an on-site restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We were there on a Saturday, but learned they offer a special brunch menu on Sundays. The food was reasonably priced, the portions were generous, and everything was beautifully presented. Read moreA great little place! Being in the old Giant Mine Rec Hall at the old Giant Mine site is very cool. As someone who grew up in Yellowknife in the 90s, it was cool to get the history of Yellowknife and the area and the mine as well as what has happened since moving away twenty years ago. There is a great collection of artifacts and lots of information to read. They also have an excellent gift shop with books and stickers from local authors and artists. Read moreI really enjoyed visiting the Historical Museum. The highlights for me were seeing the old mining equipment outside and reading the timeline inside the museaum. I thought the staff were all friendly and well educated on the museum and the history of Yellowknife. It was an interesting afternoon as it was our first stop in Yellowknife, so a lot of what we learned we retained and discussed on the rest of our trip.
