Smith’s Barcadere is a local place that locals go. It has a very steady slope into the sea which makes it ideal for the very young children.

There is so much marine life within a few metres of the beach that this place is a magnificent snorkelling place. Take some fish food to be surrounded by all sorts of fish and other sea creatures.

For the slightly older children there is a great place to do some cliff jumping (about 2-3 metres high depending on tide). It is easy to take photos of people jumping from the rocks and send some real smashers home to show friends how “extreme” your holiday has become.

There are fresh water showers and toilets at the back of the beach and they are kept in good order. This makes it easy to clean the children up at the end of the day.

There are benches and trees to give shade during the hottest part of the day.

If you like photography then come here at dusk to take the most amazing sunsets. Unrestricted views allow some amazing pictures to be taken.

For a place that is not the largest it has something for everyone.

It is a must for anyone visiting the island. If you look at my photos you can see the place is often empty. These were taken during a week day at...

Great little spot on the Southwest corner of the island. Best beach in cayman for diving. Smaller compared to governer squre beach. We snorkeled the reef about 100 yards out and there were a lot of fish. They must get fed by the tour boats because they are obviously looking for food. The fish will gather around you, which can be a bit intimidating to some. This is a nice place for night parties. Toilets and changing room is there. A nice mix of locals and tourists, shallow entry, stays shallow for meters, crystal clear water. The fish life was excellent , we saw Angel Fish, Octopus, squid, Sergent Major, Blue Tang, Needle Fish, Peacock Flounder, Surgeon Fish. Pretty little beach if you just want to paddle your feet. Free parking. No loud music (this is actually posted - it's awesome). No commercialism. Also, no food, beverages . So pack your own food. Much more of a relaxed atmosphere with some beautiful sunset views! The stones on the shore has sharp edges.

Overall, a nice Beach and a good place...

Tourists and cruise passengers are easy to find here. With that said, there is a reason why. It is a beautiful spot. You have 2 viable water entrances flanking each other. Water funnels through here with some good waves which means you probably don't want to get to close to the rocks unless you are a strong swimmer. You can stand out there all day and enjoy the water. The drawback is you will not be the only one. You will probably have to work around a group of tourist hanging out in the water with their beer. I wouldn't plan on spending all day here. There are quieter spots.

With that said, I do recommend spending some time. Aside from the water, which is clear and blue, there is a good rocky cliff area to walk through (with shoes) and pretty views. Great shade and some solid choices for laying out a towel or chair. Nice public restrooms as well as...
