Geiser del Tatio is from my perspective one of the Top 3 natural heritage and wonders of the world. That's a good example of the Mother's Nature Forces, besides Vulcanos and Glaciers, which are landmarks HIGH-END experiences too.
Be prepared here for a lifetime experience. I ve been to El Tatio driving a rented car. The journey itself up to there was awfully, a never-ending one, because an amazingly never-ending broken surface and a deep dark unknown road. I was advised by the travel agents and obviously I assumed this.
Is required to rich the site when the sun rising. You can understand why ... just when you are there and you're watching amazed the sunrise through the white steams of geisers. That's an ireal image. The whole field of geisers is shining in that surrealistic light. The temperature at 4500 meters felt like a minus 20 degrees Celsius. Take some good gloves and warm fit, because is very cold, but this contrast between the geisers temperature, which is more than 80 degrees Celsius, makes a unique spectacular overview of this enjoyable phenomenon of the planet.
Highly recommended for exquisite and adventurous travellers. Your efforts will be fully rewarded with...
Read moreAmazing thermal vents and fumaroles (not geysers though!). We went on our own (without a tour), the road to get there was fine (recently graded April 2024). We visited from opening (6:15am) until about 9:30am. Don't bother arriving at dawn, they were most impressive (and gave the best photos) as the sun rose over the mountains (about 7:15am), until 8:30am with the blue sky behind the steam. If you do choose to arrive at dawn, start at the furthest carpark as it's emptier. Otherwise, all the tours leave around 8-8:30am you'll have it all to yourself 😊 from around 8:30am the steam is slightly less impressive but you can see the bubbling water more clearly. Remember to pack warm clothes, 4 layers including thermals and wind proof jacket, plus hat/scarf/gloves was not enough! After this, we drove down the beautiful road back to the termas, and then back up it again in the afternoon to join the fully tarmac road to Calama (stunning road). In the afternoon, there was loads more wildlife near the road as there was such little traffic (the flamingos and birds were closed to/ on the road, hundreds of guanaco, llama and...
Read moreThese aren’t Geysers. They are thermal vents with water. They don’t gush and all except a couple don’t even bubble. If you have a car it’s quite a long rough journey. If you go on a tour you will be cold for many hours in a bumpy packed influenza van. On my tour I was dressed warmly but was freezing for 7 hours. If you have dietary restrictions the breakfast will not work for you. They will promise but than ignore and in my case nearly mock your request with their offering. Not worth the time, headache, effort and I wouldn’t go again if they paid me. I’d name the company but it appears to me that it’s randomized on who actually takes you. Cattle car style. It’s not all bad, some sheeple actually thought they had a good time despite it all. I mean they were quiet and mostly miserable until the end. But I’m done being polite with frauds. And I did have a pear and a citrus fruit for breakfast. It was a really good pear. A 45 dollar pear. The little orange citrus fruit was slightly below average but...
