Great place to go if you like science and even if you don't. The guided visit was thorough and the information was accurate except for one point that only a scientist could spot as being incomplete. But DO take water as the web site suggests. One of the telescopes is used mostly to look for exoplanets. On the way there, look at the photovoltaic array El Pelicano. Its 10 MW and gives power to the...

If there is heaven (a concept that I don’t accept!) on earth, then it is definitely on La silla, Chile. The clear skies and the pleasant weather in summer makes it an ideal place for astronomy! Spent 14 nights (exactly within ESO’s limit) here and on the flight back, the only thing I wish is to come back soon, again! Words cannot justify what you can see here, but...

An incredibly worthwhile excursion. You have to apply to book your tour early. Don't just show up because you'll likely not get in. Bring medication for altitude sickness just in case because it's 2400m above sea level. Worth it for just the drive through the atacama or the drive up the mountain, not to mention the large telescopes and...
