Seriously, this place is amazing! So the town of Pucon is really impressive, and the PKR is located just outside of town, easily found at the corner of the road straight out of Pucon and the Trancura River. So it's easily accessible and right on the water. When you stay there you can hear the river all day long. The folks there built this place up out of the jungle, and since David Hughes, the owner is a first class kayaker in his own right, he knows everything a boater needs. Staff - professional, know what they are doing and talking about, super cool, friendly, go out of their way to help, more than they probably should. Lodging is really great. Wide array of options from a nice bunk house, Group shower house, hotel type rooms with private baths, to fancy high end jurts right on the water. Beds are all comfy, rooms are very clean, modern and well maintained. They bring in cooks who make homemade food in this super cool Quincho (see photo). But there's also a boater kitchen if you need to do it on your own. Safe storage for your gear. There are tons of river options nearby for all skill levels. David and staff are super helpful with restaurants, directions to the grocery store, there's a boating gear shop in town with good quality options if you forgot or need to buy anything. There are lots of other things to do like hot springs, volcano hikes, rock climbing, biking, fishing. etc. We went and did our own thing, but I have no doubt that if I booked a week or more, the staff would cover everything we needed. It really is just that good. Looking to experience kayaking and more in Chile, check out PKR. Did I mention that in this part of Chile no mosquitos, no poison ivy...
Read moreLoved it!! Imagine staying in a spacious and comfortable dome by a wilderness river…without mosquitoes! PKR offers an array of fun and varied activities—kayaking, rafting, yoga, hikes to waterfalls, horseback riding, paragliding, canyoning, wine tasting, hot springs, shopping, and dining. The challenging activities have friendly and professional guides who prioritize safety and fun. But we came to decompress and completely chill out. We seized upon the lesser challenging activities, and it was perfect for us. PKR serves healthy and delicious meals in the most beautiful Quincho (dining room) designed by organic architect, Astorga. Our dinners were enhanced with exciting stories shared by others about their day’s experiences, while my wife and I sampled Chile’s delicious Carménère wine. The retreat is perfectly located a short distance from Pucon, nestled in a beautiful forest along the riverbank of the Rio Pucon. We began our 2 days with morning yoga, breakfast, then on to spectacular hikes, a visit to a relaxing hot spring, a trek along the river and nature preserve, and a tasting with lunch at a nearby micro-brewery. We absolutely loved our experience. So, whether you are looking for a multi-sport adventure, or a place to chill and re-connect with nature in a beautiful setting with friendly and attentive staff, this...
Read moreWas fortunate enough to stay at PKR and participate in one of their weeklong trips. What an ideal setup they have. The location is awesome, take out and put in for the Upper and Lower Trancura is just a 100m walk down to the bank. And so many other river options are within driving distance of the retreat. The variety, quantity, and quality of the rivers is pretty unreal.
About the retreat itself: The lodging is awesome - clean, well appointed, and comfortable, overlooking the beautiful riverfront. Hot showers and comfortable beds! I have not slept so well traveling in a long time.
The guide staff is amazing, all excited to help, very competent teachers, skilled paddlers, and fun hang with.
The kitchen staff is also top notch, providing healthy and delicious meals throughout the experience.
Additionally, the equipment that is available for guest use/to rent is really nice, modern, and relevant - two of the boats I paddled had only been used less than handful of times - there is an wide selection of of modern boat options.
Overall, if you want a stress-free, fun, challenging, and inclusive paddling experience, I would highly recommend PKR. It may cost a bit more than other countries/options, but for what you get, it is totally worth it. I will be going back...
