We went by bike and left just before 8am, when it was nice and cool. A delightful time of day! The ticket office is located at the start of the valley and opens at 8.30am (we bought our tickets there and paid by card without any surcharge). It’s an easy, short bike ride out of town.

Once you’ve gone past the ticket office, you cycle in the shade between the rocks for about 3 km, slightly uphill but not too sandy. Then you lock got your bike and continue on foot. The walk takes you up to the viewpoint, which is fabulous, and around by the top and then down a huge dune. It’s totally exhilarating! Best of all, we were completely on our own during the whole visit, except for one other guy and a very small group of 2 or 3 sandboarders in the distance. Unlike the Valle de la Luna, we could do it all before it got too hot.

Note that there are no facilities other than toilets there. Nowhere to refill your...

Absolutely stunning but PLEASE BE WARNED. Do NOT wear sandals if you are going to do the hike that walks down from the mirador and down the sand dunes. This was the gravest mistake I could have made as the sand is SO hot, it literally burnt my feet and I cried the whole way down. Would have been fine if I'd had socks and/or trainers on. Also the road from the main entrance to the car park was mostly fine, except our SUV (and others around at the same time) couldn't get through the sand at one point, so we had to go back and go to the other mirador 5km up the road instead. Knocked a star off due to sand burning and...

The most spectacular place after Valle de la luna is Valle de la Marte! A pace very close to San Pedro de Atacama, approximately 17 min by bike and 35min walking! The entrance for the park is 3000pes! After arrivi g at the entrance you will still have to walk one hour to get to the view point, if by bike then 30 min and. Stil 15 min walk at the end where the bike can not go! It is a beautiful place to visit! Sunrise from the view point or mirrador is spectacular but you have to start very early! If there before the park opens at 09:00 then get in and pay while...

An amazing trip from San Pedro and an easy bike ride. Still knackering, but you'll be at the Valley in only 30 minutes and from there you can cycle through the whole valley to come out back on the main road on the other side where you have La Piedra del Coyote. All in all, with ample stops and pushing your bike up steep hills, you can be back in San Pedro in 3-4 hours meaning you only need to pay for a half day for the bike (3000CHP).
