The three Marias Valley of the Moon — Attraction in San Pedro de Atacama

Absolutely frustrating experience. We went here from B-241 road (after a salt lake) following the large green sign and after all the road was closed. Nothing was written that the road is closed on the main road. Why isn't the sign removed at all? Moreover, during the road we fell into the huge gap and broke the bumper of the car. Again there was no warning sign. After all we came to the moon valley by foot. Can't say it's something special by the way. It's not the moon at all. Here we were met by two awful park guards who rudely asked us to come back because we didn't buy tickets. They asked us to walk back about 1 km and then drive another 30 km to buy tickets... It's idiotism. Why can't I pay and see the area if I'm already here? I kindly asked to look around and go back, but they behave as robots forcing us to go back and following us to be sure we don't go somewhere else. To sum up, the park administration is totally disorganized and doesn't deserve any payment, I think. Moreover, they now owe me money for a bumper and for my nerves....

Valley of the Moon, as it is more commonly known, is well worth the visit, particularly for sunset pictures. I don't know if it's the same every evening, but the sky was brilliant for photography when I was there. Do try and get a good spot well in time; people get very pushy there! The most popular trip in the Atacama, and VERY crowded towards sunset.

Probably the most uninspiring tour of our six tours in the Atacama - though still interesting if you haven't done much exploring of this kind.

Pretty good scenery for much of the trip, but emphasis is placed on 'the sunset'. The area will be very crowded and if you want to get good photos, get there early and stake your place. You have to keep within a perimeter rope - and people WILL TRY to push in front of you.

Recommended for good sunset photography, otherwise many of the other...

Todo o Valle de La Luna é intrigante e lindíssimo com a Cordilheira do Sal, as Três Marias ou a vista do pôr-do-sol ! Passeio ideal para o final de tarde, pelo calor excessivo quando a estação é o verão. Indicado beber muita água e uso de protetor solar. Ter revelado o processo de formação de um deserto ou as mudanças sutis a partir dos sinais que se revelam ali, contando com o passar do próprio tempo, permite ao visitante perceber que a natureza ali é o próprio museu a céu aberto, o deserto é um museu. Local que faz lembrar uma superfície lunar, ou mesmo o cenário de algum filme que trata sobre a vida para além da Terra. Mesmo que Matt Damon, interpretando o astrounauta "Perdido em Marte" não tenha gravado ali o filme, talvez o cenário te faça lembrar deste. Claro que há também riscos que muitas vezes parecem ficar negados pelos visitantes. Ou seja, o avanço aos limites sutilmente demarcados, geram preocupação, pelo menos aos mais atentos. Pois, o perigo de queda ou desmoronamento nos pontos mais elevados existe, mesmo que seja pouco assinalado. Nas áreas baixas há placas informativas indicando "no pasar", porém no cânion, local mais elevado para ver o pôr-do-sol há falta destas, e mesmo a falta de avisos mais enfáticos do próprio guia da agência de turismo. Autorizadas para fazer os passeios nesta reserva. Pois, o surreal do cenário aliado à uma contemplação contemporânea que parece não existir sem seu registro através de uma foto, leva muitos, jovens principalmente, a esquecerem do risco de morte presente nos desfiladeiros, deste vale que também é conhecido por este nome, Vale da Morte. Cabe lembrar que as agências cobram para te levar até lá e também há o pagamento de taxa de entrada no local quando ocorre...
