This is one excellent stroll around the peninsula at Punta Curiñanco. The trail is single-path all the way. The trail is almost entirely in shade, and it is very easy on the feet due to the thick layer of leaves & dirt along the entire route. There are no steep pitches on this trail. The path requires constant maintenance to keep the brush at bay and It is meticulously maintained by the caretaker gentleman who takes your 3000 CLP fee at the entrance. There was no trash whatsoever along the entire 2km trail. This is partly because daypacks to carry Cheetos, plastic bottles, etc are forbidden on the trail...you leave them with said gentleman or just leave them in your car. Entry to the reserve is from the residential road a few feet past the parada on the right, at the end of the main road. The entrance is a locked gate at the caretaker's house. If the ABIERTO sign is up on the fence, just call out a hearty "HOLA!" and he will come out of his house to let you in. This was two hours...

About 2 hours long loop in the forest and then in the hills along the coast. 3000 pesos entry fee. I liked the nature. The 1 star is beacsue they don't let you take the backpack into the reserve. A lot of blabbering about hanta virus, rodents, urine and security cameras in the forest. But it escaped me how carrying water and jacket in the hands is going to be safer virus wise than having them in a small daypack. Might as well tell the visitors to carry garlic cloves in their pockets, or other paint...

If you are staying in Valdivia, this preserve is worth a trip. If you go by bus, the bus will drop you off where you need to be, but if you are driving, do NOT follow the Google Maps directions—they will take you to a dead end. Instead, look for the "Punta Curiñanco Loop Trail" map point. The directions will take you there (although you will have to walk the last 50 yards). Best is to park on the side of the paved road and walk the rest of the way.
