Pandas were out in force, and awake when we went. Great place to go to see them. Bring your own food and water as the options in and around are pretty limited or overpriced. Buy your toy panda outside the Base off a street vendor to save money. If you are taking the underground, watch the walk at the end. 3.5 km to the Base, so be ready for a slog, taxi, local bus trip or a game of tour price rolette with the waiting buses. Once there, avoid the Swan pond downhill to the left (unless you like swans), and head straight in to see the Pandas. It's not too hard to get good pictures since they are pretty sedentary and food motivated (by the zoo keepers). The crowds are less on weekdays and during the early morning (7-9am) so it's better to go then. Pandas do tend to hide if it is raining so that's not a good time.
