Tucked into the mountainous heart of Chongqing, Liziba Station is one of those places that makes you stop and say, “Only in China.” It’s not just a train station—it’s a marvel of urban ingenuity. Watching the monorail glide through a residential building is surreal, like something out of a sci-fi movie. But it’s real, and it works. The engineering is flawless, the timing precise, and the whole thing feels like a quiet celebration of human creativity.

Chongqing itself is a city that demands stamina. It’s vast, vertical, and full of life. The hills, the heat, the endless staircases—it’s not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. But if you’re willing to put in the effort, the rewards are immense. The food alone is worth the trip—spicy, bold, unforgettable. And the people? Warm, proud, and full of stories.

Standing at Liziba, watching the train disappear into the building, I couldn’t help but feel a deep admiration for our Chinese brothers and sisters. They’ve built cities that don’t just function—they astonish. Chongqing is a testament to what’s possible when vision meets determination. It’s not always easy to navigate, and it might wear you out, but it’s absolutely worth it.

If you ever find yourself in China, don’t skip Chongqing. And definitely don’t miss Liziba. It’s a small moment in a big city, but one that stays with you long after the...

Liziba LRT Station 李子坝轻轨站

Liziba station is one of the hottest Instagram spots in Chongqing. And no wonder. Hundreds of tourists hang around just to snap a photo or video of the train going silently right through the residential building.

Not to worry. This Chongqing Light Rail Transit on line 2 is built separately and at the same time as the residential building. The support structures of the building are separated by about 20 centimetres from the pillars of the rail. What's more, the train runs on rubber tires with air suspension on them. Therefore, the building does not feel the intensity of the vibrations coming from the train.

This is how Chongqing work around the mountainous terrain of the city, nicknamed Mountain City.

It's amazing how an 'ordinary' neighbourhood light rail station used by Chongqing residents had become such a hotspot for tourists 😂

The Liziba Viewing Platform is one of those must-see spots in Chongqing where you truly appreciate the city’s unique engineering and urban design. Standing on the platform, you get a clear view of the light rail line literally passing through a residential building — something you won’t find in many other cities around the world.

It’s a short stop but definitely worth the visit. The trains run frequently, so you won’t have to wait long before catching the surreal sight of them gliding smoothly through the building. The platform itself is well-maintained, with ample space for visitors to take photos and enjoy the spectacle.

This place perfectly sums up Chongqing’s reputation as a city of hills, bridges, and innovative urban planning. A quick visit, but one that leaves a...
