To be honest, this is my second visit to this hotel. My friends and I went last month just for a weekend and i was so impressed that I thought this place would be great to spend spring festival since I didn’t want to spend it in my city. Unfortunately, this time around, the hotel just did not live up to expectations. I don’t know if it’s because I had an executive room before where this time we had a deluxe room, but there were just so many problems and a very big difference in attitude of the hotel staff. 1. One of our biggest problems was with the bellmen. For some reason, one of them kept telling us that people give and get red packets during Chinese New Year’s (he did this multiple times with different people), and he even went as far as to ask one of them for said packet. Tipping isn’t even a part of their culture here and even if it was, it’s super impolite to demand it. In another instance, my friend was having trouble locating the food she had ordered so she went down and she tried to speak to the other bellman and he snubbed her over and over again. He even twisted up his face like she was a bother to him, and like it wasn’t his job to help her, seeing as how she is a guest in the place that he works and all. and this was directly contrasting with how he treated other guests (I watched him as I was checking out; super enthusiastic guy), but I don’t want to play the race card.2. Our bathroom had an issue with the drain. From a horrible pee scent to not having water go down and eventually flooding the bathroom. It was just so troublesome for 3/4 of our day. There were other little issues, but those would’ve been more tolerable if the previous two weren’t such a big deal. And though there were good features of our stay, unfortunately, the bad outweighed it. Good features included a very helpful young man. That was there at Knight who helped us sort out the Wi-Fi issue we had been having. We had not been able to connect at night for two consecutive nights and it was starting to piss us off, but he helped to fix that real quick. Additionally, the lady who did housekeeping on our floor was the sweetest at this place and quite nice. Oh and while I mention housekeeping, cleanliness was OK. We didn’t find any fly away hairs or anything like that in our rooms or in the living room, but there was just one straw on the bathroom shower. Aside from that, everything was OK though the walls of the living room showed obvious signs of a long time dirt marks and patches. Anyways, as it relates to rooms, the layouts are generally the same and it is quite nice but the condition of the one that we got this time was definitely much MUCH worse than the executive suite so if you are someone who is looking to go to this place, be sure to spend a lot of money and book a more expensive suite. PERHAPS your room will be better and the staff will treat you better. I don’t think I’ll be returning though. Not...
Read moreThis will just be a simple review of this brand service apartments which happens to be part of the lodging company we usually stay with when on the mainland, ie The Ascott Limited.||This was my daughter’s birthday gift/trip this year, if not another quick weekend getaway, as our work schedules couldnt allow otherwise. ||We were in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou, a mix of residential, office buildings and shopping malls next to each other. The complex itself is literally connected to a mall, just as most Ascotts’ are, super convenient for groceries ∨ grabbing a bite, etc. There are several mini-convenience stores less than 5 minutes away, for when mall is closed. ||The metro stations are a bit of a walk from the property. It is easier to call for a Didi to get where you want to go and back, eg quick photo taking at the Guangzhou Circle…Just plan your travel time well, especially if by train; we came in/out via high speed rail so was approximately 30+ minutes between station and property, counting possible traffic.||The apartment I dont have to tell you was very comfortable, eg living room, bedrooms, bathrooms…just as what you expect to feel when ‘at home’. ||The Ascott group has not failed us yet, and once again provided top notch hospitality/customer service, extending our sincere thanks to Matt Wang/Guest Service Manager who was very welcoming and helpful thru emails, handling pre-arrival issues, then further assisting with queries during our short stay. Shout out to Eva @Reception, who checked us in but was already providing excellent customer service as she kept in touch with us via messaging, assisting us to find the reserved hotel car/driver coming out of the train station..’bravo! & well done to the breakfast crew, housekeeping and all other staff at Somerset Haizhu Centre Guangzhou👏🏽👏🏽’.||Theres not a lot of reviews for SHCG…I’m assuming because theres more long term staying guests vs 1 nighters or short trip/weekenders like we did. So, it is an honour to add this review into the mix, as reference for...
Read moreThe apartment building is located in Haizhu which is a busy area with lots of offices, malls and shops. The traffic along the main raod leading into the area can be quite busy - so allow for delay due to traffic It is part of the Ascott group and we had high expectations but was disappointed in a couple of ways.||Plus points|- the studio apartment we will allotted to was of a good size and a large bathroom |- toilets are modern and well maintained|- they provided a washer and dryer for the laundry|- the kitchen had a hotplate, microwave and good size fridge with freezer|- there is mall attached and next door. Both had lots of food options from food court - fast food - good restaurants|- the staff was friendly and helpful in providing information about food options|- housekeeping cleaned and change our linen daily||Negatives|- the kitchen was well equipped but they did not provide any cooking utensils or cultery/crockery|- the buffet breakfast was disappointing. Bread was stale, the toaster setting was set so low the bread hardly browned. Generally the food was not hot except for the noodle station. Some food items (like fried eggs) seems to have been cooked some time ago (over night?). The coffee from the coffee machine was also not piping hot which is really strange. Similarly with the soya drink - seems to be a common characteristic of the food items (cooked, warm but not hot)||Given that there were not a lot of patrons, it might be better to offer set breakfast meals that can be cooked fresh? Or provide cook ware and crockery/cutlery to patrons to cook in the kitchenette. (there is a supermarket in the attached mall).||Advice to anyone considering the apartment - maybe consider booking room without breakfast and head next door to the mall and have breakfast there. There is MacDonald, Starbucks and other local eateries for a quick reasonably...
