The Ordos Grassland Park is a theme park with hotel/F&B that is unique. There’s a lot of activities available so do plan to spend one full day including an overnight stay.
Plan to arrive in the morning around 10am. As you cannot check in, go straight for the horse riding whilst it’s still early and not so hot. Please note that those above 55 yo cannot ride. Change into your riding gear and head out to the stables. Let the trainers match you to the horse. Some are very competitive and will go from slow trot to gallop just to be the front horse. You have to get on the horse and get off by yourself. Left foot into the left stirrup, hands on saddle horn and hoist yourself over the saddle. Quite scary for first timers. A trainer will lead the pack into the 3km riding trail. Be ready for views of horse dung covered by dung beetles along the trail. Also, keep your cellphones inside your riding boots. Many of us dropped our phones along the way and one got crushed by the hooves of horses.
Next up, go for the Grand Feast (see previous post). After lunch, go the horse and archery performance (Hero). This is a live performance with a huge cast of riders and dancers and horses. A lot of pyrotechnics will be used. So much so that the props caught fire during our show.
Following that, go for the other activities such as grass sleds, go-cart, archery, golf driving range, feeding the sheep and horse back picture taking. Take the grassland train there for these activities. You can also catch an acrobat show.
When you are done, it’s about 5.30pm. Go for an early dinner. Lots of choices of restaurant that offers Chinese food. After dinner, check in. Here’s where you get to stay in a Mongolian Yurt like hotel. Trust me. You do not want to stay in a real yurt. It is very uncomfortable to say the least and the hygiene levels are not acceptable to city dwellers. Here you can see what a yurt looks like, feels like and still have your creature comforts such as air conditioning, hot shower and WC all in one room.
At night, go for the Mongolian Wedding Performance followed by the Bonfire gathering. There’s fireworks at the end at around 10.30pm.
Check out next morning after breakfast or stay on for some more of the activities you may have missed.
Please take note that the tickets for horse riding, Grand Feast, Hero performance are sold separately. The go-cart, glass sleds, sheep feeding, acrobats show, etc is one ticket. The Mongolian Wedding Performance is also a separate ticket as is the breakfast.

Read moreA great place for a stopover and vacation with stunning grassland views. When I arrived, the temperature was almost 0°C, but that didn’t dampen our spirit of exploration. In Ordos Grassland, you can enjoy various paid activities such as wearing traditional Mongolian costumes, sliding, bumper cars, watching shows, touring by train, and even staying in a Mongolian yurt. The food available is quite tasty. The air is very fresh and cool in the morning, with strong...
Read moreOur first visit to Inner Mongolia. It's refreshing to be in nature, such a vast endless spread of grassland landscape. Tourism is the new era for this traditionally nomadic culture. Overall it is well organized & the facilities are modernized, though there are plenty of rooms for future improvement. It is worth the while to have such...
