西湖国宾馆 — Attraction in Hangzhou City

A hard to describe experience, I would try with “ a 3 star hotel locates at a 5 star location”. It blocks a big part of west lake from general public, in a great looking garden. But it smells moldy especially in the rooms of original buildings. The hotel service is very superficial. They tried to be high end and welcoming at arrival then that was it. We were blocked from East entrance where is closer to our room and where we had been entering our rooms for two days at a rainy night. It was not the nicest lake side building and there weren’t any security details around- I think that means no necessity to block the building or entrance. And I can actually walk from my room back to the east entrance and inquire. The hotel manager standing there basically couldn’t explain and didn’t even offer a sorry.
