Biggest ice & snow festival in the world. Amazing how they can build all that and the effort it must have taken.

We went at the end of December while they were still constructing a few things (official opening was only on 5 January) and there were already a lot of people. Temperature was not too bad, at around -15 C. Jan & Feb will definitely be colder and more crowded.

Arrive around 2 hours before sunset so you can see the sculptures during both day and night. Didn't see too many food options around, so eat before you go. Make sure to bring a power bank, as you will be taking a lot of pictures and the cold drains your battery.

Adult tickets are around 300 RMB, but if you want to skip the 2-hour queues for the slides and observation wheel then you will need to buy a VIP ticket instead for 800 RMB. It's not worth it, but if you can afford it...

It is amazing what they can do with ice, the scale and quality of the sculptures and the diversity, It is a must to go there at least once, just find out when the massive crowds are not there they are getting out of hand at times. Harbin has great food and drinks (local Lemon Vodka is a treat in 1/2 ltr bottles during that time) You will need the heat for the long walks through the sub-zero everywhere . Worth while. Day and night are different and spectacular. One issue I see is that they use a large percentage of their drinking water reserves to do the ever bigger designs. Commerce is taking over the needs of the normal people who need the H2O to live and work with during the growing season. You can see the devastation in the summer time that the lack of government water management is creating...
