Situated in probably one of the busiest areas of Harbin city, stands this historic church, constructed in a Russian Orthodox style architecture. While I am no expert on the history of Harbin, I think it is quite evident the influence Russia once had on the area, with a surprising amount of influence still visible till today.
When we visited, the place is undergoing so major form of restorative work, so we did not manage to have a tour on the inside, but the outside seems beautiful enough. It is also quite lovely to visit considering that you are actually in China, and yet feels like you been teleported across the border.

Saint Sophia Cathedral is one a few Orthodox churches in Harbin, now converted into a Harbin Construction Art Museum. Built in 1907 after the completion of the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1903, which connected Vladivostok to northeast China. The church is located on the corner of Toulin Street and Zhaolin Street.
The rest of the square has been converted and slowly rebuilt to reflect the old architecture as well as providing underground shopping.
From certain angles similar to Russian architecture.
Unfortunately all the indoor areas have been closed due to the public health crisis.

Nice old landmark in Harbin, and there are really few left due to the disruptive building trend in main Chinese cities. It is an unmissable sight you have to see if coming to Harbin, telling you of the time Russia had its own visor aimed at Manchuria and the far-east. The inside ihas lost much of its old glory but from outside the view is pretty nice, especially during the night. Spend 30 mins here, you won't regret it...read the outer explanatory panel but do some extra research if you wanna know more.

This is something of a combination zoo and amusement park centred around Siberian tigers which reminds us that Heilongjiang Province is China's Siberia.
The amusement park is, in my view, overpriced and suitable for small children which is not what I nor my wife are. There are some cute photo opportunities, though, for those so inclined.
The bus through the safari park enclosures is 120 RMB per person (or 140 RMB per person, if you fancy meat on the outside of your bus to attract the tigers). We found that they come quite close without the meat, so the extra 20 is probably unnecessary.
The enclosures are pretty large and there are a large number of tigers who seem to me, to be fairly well treated, so if you are comfortable as a zoo-goer, this might not be a bad place to visit.
Some of the other animals are not treated as well or given as much space as the "title" animals, unfortunately.
Especially disturbing is the program where you can purchase live chickens to be fed to the tigers. The most disturbing aspect for me was the applause of the visitors when the tiger did the chicken in. Seemed a little cruel, to say the least.
Pro-Tip:
This is not an attraction for everyone and can be skipped unless you have a great fascination with the tigers. That said, they were majestic and impressive in their own right, to be sure.
Up to you, I suppose....

So my family and I visited this place. At first I thought, man, I'm not really in favor of keeping animals in captivity. No, I ain't no activist, but after seeing how the Tigers played , rolled over, sun bathed, swam and just overall play with each other in different kinds of biomes(some were filled with grass, trees, some were muddy), I guess they don't have it all that bad.
Plenty of things to see here.
After the 15min ish bus safari ride, you're then brought to the viewing platform where gifts and souvenirs could be had. It also allowed u to branch off and venture ur way into viewing some "rare" species: liger, white tiger, white lion, lynx and some tiny black bears (this area stinks. Like holy it stinks. So uve been warned).
After the safari and viewing platforms, tons of other activities could be had outside the safari area. A small petting zoo , some fishing activities setup in an inflatable pool, viewing little tiny cubs (tiger), petting alpacas/lamas/goats. All sorts of fun ways to enjoy yourself either through ur eyes, hands or stomach.
Just be sure to come early. If u arrive at 9am, you're too late. LOL. God bless u with the line up.
Notes: the bus is air-conditioned. Best seats are the ones behind the bus driver. If visiting during the summer, bring something to keep u cool while u wait. Bring your own toilet paper.

Not here to start a debate on the morals and ethics on this tiger park. Visited as part of a tour, and this is like a mini safari, where you will sit in a bus, and move from locked compounds. There were quite a number of tigers that were free to roam within the "specific" gated areas. However, we noticed a large number were also kept confined in very tiny cages at the edges of the said gated areas. If you will get distressed by caged animals, perhaps it would not be wise to visit here.
Tourist can purchase a selection of meat, including whole chickens, and engage in feeding of the tigers. Being top of the food chain, it is expected that the tigers will consume meat, but again, if it poses any distress, better to skip this place.
All in, it was not a bad day, apart from the sight of many tigers in the tiny cages.

Was a great experience! Tigers are well fed and looked after which was nice to see. Only downside is drivers don't speak english and don't really have time to use the translator apps. They tend to rush thru the drive only stopping for a few mins at each enclosure which was disappointing 😞 a bucket of food (about 5 pcs) is 100¥ (about $20au) and buses are crammed with people so there's very limited room to move. It's also hard to get the food/tongs thru the bars (making pics hard to take) as it sticks due to being so cold, so kids will need help. Your taking oics thru bars as well so make sure you prepare for that and set up early coz you'll miss out if u don't.

Healthy well fed tigers, the tigers are chunky and are noticeably well fed as there are so many tourists.
We arrived around 9am and waited 1 hour to enter, and when we exited around 11:40pm the wait to enter was 3-4 hours.
The mini safari tour was around 25 minutes where they went through several enclosures allowing time to feed the tigers.
Overall, was a pretty good experience if you don’t have to wait so long in line to enter.
Downside is if you’re not comfortable with seeing animals in cages or chickens being eaten, this may not be the place for you.

Visiting Heilongjiang in winter, is not completed without visiting Xue Xiang (Snow Town). We visited the Snow Town by bus from Harbin, about 280km. The Snow Town only open on the winter, about 4 months in the year. The temperature of the Snow Town is around minus 25 to minus 35 degree Celcius, quite extreme for me, who lives at a tropical country with the sun shining all the year. When winter comes, the snow here can up to 2metres.
We lived in local residents’s house, they provide a room for 2 or 4 peoples with a private bathroom, some of them provide dinner and breakfast. We can be surrounded this place by walking, where there’re many souvenirs booth, snacks and show. Don’t forget to take the pictures that everyone do 😊 throwing the bottled of boiled water into the air which will immediately freeze due the very colf temperature.
The local people is very friendly, the local food is very delicious.

Fairy land like winter wonderland. A sure must visit when in Harbin. Fire works, parade, and open air party every day. Street is lined with many Chinese restaurants. There's a Starbucks also, surprisingly. Sledge rides with choice of dog or reindeer pulled. Home stay type accomodations are abundant although you pay 5 star price for a 2 star accomodation. Understandbly so as they can only earn 5 months during winter with little or no business for the rest of the year. Two other scenic places worth visiting by arranging private transport about 30 minutes away are Datudingzi mountain and China Snow Valley.

It is Finland in China. A must once in a lifetime. It is a real village, made up of private house that turn into inns, restaurants, cafes and shops for the sake of tourism . Given its location in the cold mountains, it is hard for resources to get there thus things are more expensive compared to other areas in Harbin.
I recommend you must try their BBQ MILK, which is milk boiled with red dates and goji berries and flower petals of choice.
Inn rooms are small but clean and functional. No 5 stars hotel here. Food is great for me. It is only one night stay.

Very nice small little town where you can spend 2 to 3 days here for skiing, photo shooting and explore local food.
Every night they have costume parade and also party in the snow around 18:00 onwards. Check with hotel or inn to double confirm the timetable.
There's also a hot Spa in the only 5stars hotel at the very far end, the spa is available everyday from 16:30 till 23:00, you can enjoy indoor spa or outdoor spa.

Experience is unpleasant due to the sheer number of visitors in the town. Prices for the restaurants and hotels in the town are exorbitant.
There is nothing much to be done in the town too, you will have to travel outside the town for activities.
One night will be sufficient but it is not worth the 4-5 hrs journey from Harbin via bus / train just to see snow cap houses.
It will be better to just stay in Harbin.
