It is quite easy to go to Violet Hill, just by taking bus from Exchange Square bus terminal at Central and drop off Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park. Walk toward Parkview, you may find the entrance of Violet hill.
The hiking will start with a lot of steps but not dangerous and easy to manage. You just walk in your own pace with systemic breathing, you will not feel tired. You can walk along, or with your friends, or your family with kids and pets.
It will take about 2 hour walk to Repulse Bay. Around Chinese New Year, a lot of people will go to see Chinese Bell flowers. In fact, you can see the beautiful sea view as well as the green bushes covered by red Chinese Bell flowers.

As a foreigner, you can always walk from the endpoint to the bus (before heading back to the metro) OR simply walk home (90 minutes at worst depending on where you are staying on the island).
Make sure you bring water (16-20 oz should be sufficient). The mountain/hill isn’t too far from civilization. Make sure you pick up your trash because there isn’t really any trash cans available — which is great to induce recycling and encourage thhe...

The whole trail covers the Tze Lo Lan Shan path to the Wilson country Trail. It is quite a strenuous walk including many upward/downward steps The whole trail takes about 4 hours for an average middle aged man. The effort is worthwhile, apart from the exercise the hike provides, it also provides stunning views of the Tai Tam Reservoirs and HK coastlines and the wild flower in season such as the Bell flowers in Feb-March every year.
